Damien Hirst Spot Prints, by skitchy on Apr 5, 2012 13:41:25 GMT 1, There is a selection of about 4 or 5 signed show posters to choose from in the gift shop, Nothing special about them, no edition, quite big so framing would be annoying.
Is his signature worth 200 alone?

Damien Hirst Spot Prints, by Zippy on Apr 7, 2012 23:35:53 GMT 1, Agree it is a great looking print but for those that have bought over the last few months I must ask a question... Does the continued release of prints and woodcuts bother you and feel like it has devalued the piece(s) you have bought? The Lana b print posted on here is a silkscreen ed 100. The woodcuts seem to be editions of 55 and I guess better quality. But there seems to be new releases weekly at the moment.

Damien Hirst Spot Prints, by jdwheeler on Apr 10, 2012 14:34:59 GMT 1, Agree it is a great looking print but for those that have bought over the last few months I must ask a question...
Hey mate.
Doesn't really bother me.
I always wanted a signed spot print for wall.
I also wanted the spots to be a certain size/number and landscape and definately with white background.
Completely understand how people think it is stupid, but I think it is iconic.
I genuinely dont think that a woodcut adds anything to the concept, but appreciate some people like deckled edges. I prefered the shiny glaze effect of lanatoside B to the embossed woodcut effect (completely subjective though).

I have a question; If money was no object would you buy Hirst's work? For me I find it easier to spend money on art than most other material things, I suppose it's because I'm interested in art and appreciate it, although my wife does not express the same views. As long as the bills are covered, then why not spend the rest on something you enjoy. I seem to be the only one in my family who likes the spot range, I'm happy with that though. There are many artists I don't get and would never waste my money on, even if they are popular.
Lana B is a great looking print, personally I'm not bothered about values for this, I just wanted a hirst spot print. With the hassle of previous Eyestorm spots I wanted one from OC and not secondary market then I don't have to worry that it's fake. Hirst is a big artist, regardless of the bad press and what people think about him or his work, he is not going to go away. Artist are recognized by their work, repetition is therefor key to their success. Not sure what I'm trying to say but..... I like his work, I own some of his works, I don't care what they are worth as they will be passed on to my kids, I didn't buy these to sell in the near future. As for addition sizes, they are relatively small compared with a lot of artists.

Damien Hirst Spot Prints, by Zippy on Apr 10, 2012 16:03:47 GMT 1, ^^ JD - thanks for replying.... I do agree it is iconic and I do not think it is stupid. I like the concept of producing a woodcut and am led to believe that the quality of colour would be stronger / better than a silkscreen? I would need to see the 2 together to make any purchase decision. Anyway - enjoy yours!
^ ABC - thanks for your reply too. 'If money was no object' I would buy a set of all of them! I agree he is a huge Artist and depending on the amount of works published I am sure they will increase in value and your kids will love inheriting them one day.
I am not trying to be negative about Mr Hirsts work as I would love a spot picture on my walls at home.
My question was merely about the amount of works currently being published and if you had previously purchased and now more editions are being released does that bother you?
What do others think? Let us know if you have a spot piece when you reply as it will be interesting to see the replies of those that have bought v those that have not.

Damien Hirst Spot Prints, by Happy Shopper on Apr 10, 2012 16:09:29 GMT 1, I think if I'd bought at a higher price bracket, and a bigger print was released that I could have bought cheaper, then I'd be annoyed... but that's common sense isn't it!?
You could be equally annoyed by buying any artist's work, only for them to release something cheaper, or more of the same, or just an image that you like more.

Damien Hirst Spot Prints, by redfred on Apr 10, 2012 16:18:58 GMT 1, Bought Lana B and I am really pleased I did, again not overly bothered about value as it looks great on the wall and that is where it will be staying, as for other Spots being released I am not particularly worried as I dont think an extra few hundred will make any difference considering the number churned out over the years, and he certainly wouldnt do it if they arent popular. Mine has received a mixed responce with most people who have seen it passing the comment 'they dont get it' but this boils down to taste! From a monetry point of view this probably falls mid way in my collection but is close to the top regarding likeability.

Damien Hirst Spot Prints, by lifeonwalls on Apr 10, 2012 19:03:22 GMT 1, Quite happy with my $75 Nuchleohistone poster. Would never be able to justify a real Hirst print and the endless supply of them would irritate me. I like to think that the art I buy can at least hold it's value. Not saying these won't in the long run but demand isn't outweighing supply at any point.
What happens if/when everyone wants to sell their Hirsts?!

Likewise !
I have been after a spot print for some time and toyed with purchasing an 'Opium' print for awhile. The release of the OC prints allowed be to finally pick up a spot print at a slightly more affordable price. The print has had some passing comments following the negative media around Hirst, but its the pleasure of looking at this print that adds the value to it!. We love gazing at this and the novelty of staring at a bunch of Spots remains as from every angle it looks or reflects differently and the colours work perfectly in our room. People should be purchasing art to hang on walls not with one eye on the future value...that's what I did many years ago with my Banksy's, Futuras and Seen etc etc artworks...if someone else digs them enough to pay 100 times what I purchased a print for them whoopee. I am not bothered at all about the constant releases, or that the Lano B edition has not even sold out!...if that were the case I would be hoping a shedload of artist's would be run over by a bus to maintain their exclusivity
