Micallef Flooding ebay, by stuey09 on Sept 24, 2007 21:24:48 GMT 1, Sooooo many prints on ebay the prices are really dropping... God I Want To Be Bad sold for ยฃ686 (I think we'll see it go a little lower before possibly rising again, the supply and demand is off kilter I think) Uzi Lover 2 sold for ยฃ1,170 (below cost!!) Peacekeeper ยฃ1549 Improvised Minotaur & Peacekeeper set ยฃ3000
It's no surprise CBL There were so many flippers onto this lot that the market was always going to flooded. As you say though, once a lot of genuine fans have this lot they will become more scarce and lo and behold, the cost is on its way up. I wonder how many gallerys are starting to pick up cheap prints with the intention of holding them until the prices pick up.

Micallef Flooding ebay, by stylus on Sept 24, 2007 21:30:25 GMT 1, Given that there were 1000 copies of God I Want To Be Bad, I'm sure that eBay will be saturated for quite a while, but I hope when people actually see the print in the flesh some have second thoughts about that quick sale.

Micallef Flooding ebay, by stuey09 on Sept 24, 2007 21:42:06 GMT 1, The odd thing is, it is such a beautiful print. Why anyone would want to sell it for a few hundred profit when instead they have the opportunity to own a signed, enigmatic classic by a leading contemporary artist. It really doea beat me

I think because some student stumbles accross them - realise that they can buy for 300, sell for 800 and pay a month or two rent - before you know it 5 of their mates are doing exactly the same thing
Not blaming students for the flooding, just one factor...

Micallef Flooding ebay, by corblimeylimey on Sept 24, 2007 21:45:32 GMT 1, If anyone wasn't lucky enough to get what they wanted direct from source, I think the next week or so is likely to be a good time to buy low.
I agree Stuey, in the longer term I'm sure the prices will go up, just too many flippers, flipping at the moment, it won't always be like this, I remember loads of Banksy's Applause prints going the same way.

Micallef Flooding ebay, by stuey09 on Sept 24, 2007 21:49:21 GMT 1, I know what you're saying, but the profit on GIWTBB isn't massive, when compared with such a unique opportunity to own an amazing print. However, I do appreciate that some peoples economic position would dictate otherwise.

Great points and comparisons - Im happy to share the fact i bought a JD at cost -ยฃ300 and when the price hit around 650 i couldnt resist and sold the print to buy loads of other stuff, as at the time it was the only way i could afford it
Looking back i didnt exactly flip it, but i did sell on within a few months having never displayed it - although i did intend on framing it eventually
JD has now grown on me even more and is worth upwards of 2k! I can see the same thing happening with GIWTBB and the Laz prints because in the long run Micallef is here to stay! all IMO!

If you've got a print it doesn't really matter what its worth, but if you haven't got it and want it, it really does matter ;D

Micallef Flooding ebay, by sausageboonwee on Sept 24, 2007 22:42:33 GMT 1, Usually there are only a few prints on ebay before people receive them then when people start receiving them they then put them on ebay. I'm starting to think the flood is going to get a lot worse with hundreds hitting ebay. We could be looking at sub ยฃ500 in some cases. I think I'm starting to sound like a weatherman. I'm going to bed.

Micallef Flooding ebay, by Deleted on Sept 24, 2007 22:50:23 GMT 1, My guess is that there will be hundreds of the fuckers on ebay. I also think we will be looking at about 500 quid for GIWTBB
I actually feel sorry for the flippers who can't see the beauty in Micallef's work.
My advice is - Get an expensive crisp white framejob and find a good place for it, then let it age on your wall like a good wine. Micallef is a bloody good artist with a powerful marketting machine behind him, so if your worrying about your prints' value at this early stage, then don't.

Micallef Flooding ebay, by jB on Sept 24, 2007 23:37:57 GMT 1, 7 left in LA still! I was there that morning of the 19th arriving at 9am where there were only 12 people ahead of me. As one o'clock approached I think there was only 100 people or so in the entire line suprisingly. Micallef is still underrated in the U.S. IMHO

Micallef Flooding ebay, by endtimes on Sept 25, 2007 5:34:11 GMT 1, GIWTBB is going to be like the Banksters Flags print. They'll be everywhere and all over ebay forever. But who can resists turning ยฃ300 into ยฃ1000 overnight? Even if you like the print... I think they'll eventually stabilize roughly around the same price as flags.
Despite what I was saying earlier about print prices on these coming up on the laz prints as sellers dissapear, overall I can't help but keep thinking this scene is over and this in particular exemplifies its decline. With flipping so blatantly rampant especially by people buying who don't even know how to spell Micallef I think it's a sure sign the end is near. Buy if you like something, but don't absolutely count on being able to cash in down the road. The party's over, you don't have to go home but you can't stay here...
