Thought it might be Katrins half sister from Japan... lol. Interesting that she has abbreviated her last name as it should actually be Fridriksdottir. As in daughter of Fridrik. Damn I love Icelanders.

My wife is from Sweden where loads of family names end in -sen or -son ( same for Norway and Denmark )

P.s don’t won’t to sound arrogant or the like just found it interesting. Well done on having a Swedish wife I worked in there for a couple of yrs and enjoyed their company very much...I also love the concept of Fika. I highly rate Scando woman....

I find that a bit steep considering the 888€ Option has a similar original and better signed book... Just 3 options. There was no 1700 option The 1700 option included a signed catalogue, a poster, and a leporello print.

Cool it wasn't in the brochure they sent me. I'm going for one of the waste collector pieces

They look great. They send me a couple images of some to select from. Sadly it’s a little out of my price range. They look great though!

I was able to get my first choice. There are almost 30 available.
Avante Art was excellent to deal with so far.

Katrin Fridriks 🇮🇸 Reykjavík, Iceland • Abstract Art , by NYart on Dec 19, 2017 23:49:10 GMT 1, I do really like her work but have mixed feelings about the waste collectors. An argument could be made that her paintings aren’t planned or thought about what the outcome is going to be, and the fact she’s selling these as unique works of art pretty much supports that..

Well with work like hers, Pollocks, Mr Jago, etc. I feel it’s important that there is intent in the work they create. Sure it may look like random paint splashed here, dripping there, but there was a rhyme and reason behind it all. With her selling these waste collectors it seems to go against that. They’re byproducts of her producing a piece of art - yet they themselves are pieces of art?

I think it's more that she supports a lot of environmental and climate change issues, and by recycling and not binning these as 'waste' is a strand of that. Plus they are easily recognisable as her work, add a great splash of color to the wall and more affordable than the 3000e starting point for an original. I have one already a while back and was told it's more a mini Studio test piece.

I seriously considered picking one up because like you said they look great and are actually something of hers I can afford. I do understand the concept of recycling and all involved with it. It just got me thinking about what makes abstract expressionism more than just throwing paint and it resulting in a random ‘work of art’ and I feel that that would be intent. If there is no intended design behind it, no general outcome that is being strived for, it isn’t anything anyone else couldn’t do, just a result of random chance and the technique being used.

Katrin Fridriks 🇮🇸 Reykjavík, Iceland • Abstract Art , by Rouen Cathedral on Dec 20, 2017 2:26:13 GMT 1, It is a interesting discussion.
To me these are like process pieces. To assume an artist creates an amazing work every time they make something is impossible. Now I’m not saying these aren’t amazing because I think they are but they are part of the process to get to the ‘final work’. The work that then goes on the gallery wall, that gets incorporated into a larger piece, or made into a print.
Any good artist has hundreds of works that likely don’t see the light of day. Amongst those works are some equally amazing work as to what eventually does get released. In this case we get to see those ‘left overs’ the ‘waste’. And to much pleasure they are incredible as well. To me this is a true sign of a great artist.
That’s why being able to visit an artists studio can be such a delight. You get a glimpse into the process and the production. Luckily Instagram and technology has allowed this to be a little more accessible.
I’d be weary of an artist who has an idea for a work, goes in works on one canvas and that’s it.
