POW Jubliee Special, by chyren on Jun 8, 2012 9:28:23 GMT 1, I don't agree.
Clockwork orange was about a youth searching a place in this society Nowadays riots/violence are more about consumerism or actually the lack of it than political revendications Fight for a better world??
Nah!! Just get me than plasma screen and those latest nike air So I can fit better in that capitalist society..

POW Jubliee Special, by My Name is Frank on Jun 8, 2012 9:50:49 GMT 1, Think you're off the mark chyren. Clockwork alludes to mass brainwashing creating a society so dull that there is nothing to it, in the end even the worst parts of society should exist and we should be looking at why. Instead society attempts to brainwash people into thinking the same, the riots of last year show that in placing consumerism (milk?) in the minds of everyone as a controlling method, the violence is magnified, hence the riots act as a metaphor for the rape in clockwork quite well. Now we choose to jail the rioters (brainwash Alex) without considering the fact the situation was engineered by society as a whole worshipping commerce. Something like that anyway.

POW Jubliee Special, by Deleted on Jun 8, 2012 10:16:53 GMT 1, Are we just talking about the riots, or the wider rot that has set into our society? To just denounce one part of our society is to do a massive disservice to the other parts that are royally fcuking us over too. 'Clockwork Britain' as a whole, not just one spark.

POW Jubliee Special, by gwhit on Jun 8, 2012 10:27:19 GMT 1, Surely the main group of people fucking us over would be the people in so called controll of society " Government" , point was raised on Question TIme last night that the government are in talks to make the free bus pass for pensions a means tested type senario, which is supposed to save 6 billion a year. Yet they are spending 15 billion supporting the banks, I know if something is costing 15 billion a year to maintaine then its a failing system built on faulse hope and lies. The whole econmy is based on people creating money from nothing , the longer this practice is allowed to continue the worse the Country will get. and the whole Euro bollocks too , just another front for those with more money to get richer whilst poorer Countries suffer. Dismantle the Euro now , suffer the pain for a while now and the future will be brighter. Countries need to let there public actually vote on changes , why is this not an option truely let the masses speak ? Money, controll, missery for the masses

Would you prefer to keep throwing money into the banks and let them do as they please ?

They are not doing as they please!
The banking system failing is simply not an option.
Donโt believe everything you see on todayโs modern news coverage. Big red arrows pointing down and graphics of pound coins falling into drains is just 24 hour scare mongering.
The whole occupy movement (which achieved absolutely zero except stinking the place up a little) seemed to forget about the hundreds of thousands in the banking sector that make an average wage for a hard days work and had nothing to do with any decisions at the top. Talking about 99.99% of the workforce.
Yet letโs tar them all with the same brush! Bankers are evil! Shut them down! Letโs do away with money and have a barter system. 100 goats for my trolley huntersโฆโฆ.
Anway have a good weekend.

POW Jubliee Special, by Fuzzyduck121 on Jun 8, 2012 18:08:12 GMT 1, wonder when the jubilee set of prints will be sent out. amazing how quiet the thread has been due to a lack of banksy release....if the Er was a print this thread would be 112 pages instead of 12 for sure. POW did well with these though I reckon....wonder whats next

A Clockwork Orange is about youth rebellion and violence for fun. Adults and institutions try to cure it or analyse it, but at the end of the day, they just grow out of it. That's what happens in the book, and its pretty much exactly what happened with the riots.
