I love penny's stuf but his micro stencils seem to be getting a bit of a skill-off. Like a heavy metal gu tarist going for fret wanยฃing over melody.
Early stuff had a lot more energy for me.

Penny is very cool and does take the time out to explain/comment on his work, and for me it help to process what he is trying to say. I asked him about the new pieces and he responded with the following ... hope I am not breaking any rules here... I found it interesting and maybe some here will also.
"As with most of my works the meaning is subtle and sometimes cryptic (I don't like to just lay it on a plate for everybody to"get") . The background is the reverse of the dollar bill with the two great seals: The Masonic all seeing eye and the US government eagle crest, in the mirror is Washington's face, peeping toward the naked subject (us at our most vulnerable?) . You must have noticed that in a lot of my works I try to leave the eyes of the head on the banknote unobscured? They are watching us!"
This tells me that using currency isnt just because he thinks it looks good or that he is comfortable with it. It made me take a look at many of my Penny pieces in a different way already. If you want to know more... ask him... amazed at how much he responded with, of which the above was a small portion.
