New Banksy olympics!, by brendan1985 on Jul 24, 2012 9:03:15 GMT 1, I really like everything about these, Although I feel event based art can loose it's impact after the event has passed. So a print may not be as timeless as other designs. How I interpreted the images was aimed at the money spent on the games on self defence and the money not spent on homeless with the pole vault piece. Not sure if this is the case with London but I was living in Vancouver during the last winter Olympics and they spent what I would imagine to be millions on relocating homeless folks out of town during the 3 weeks of the games. Needless to say this created quite an uproar locally, not sure if this is the case here?

I was there too. The helicopters carrying snow was a nice touch. And the vast amount of money spent on "security" was a joke. It would have been cheaper for them just to pay everybody to behave themselves rather than throw money at a private contractor.
But let's not get onto that subject, as it's a sore point in the UK at the moment.
Anyway, back to Banksy. They're amusing.

Not far off Brendan, I remember a story of lots of landlords evicting tenants on zero notice for the accomodation. Also the local council started offering housing to locals in the Midlands! (no offence Fragile)
I bet Banksy (& team) had extra adrenaline involved on these guessing they are 'Olympically' placed locations ?
There are six missile stations ..

I know this isn't your main point but no residents living in Olympic Boroughs were ever offered housing in the Midlands. A story was in the press about a private conversation between a housing association and a council to do with the possibility of residents moving to supported living in Stoke. This was no more than a conversation that the media ran with.
Both pieces look excellent to me

How do you know? My girlfriend is from Palestine and was saying there's not much of the wall there (mostly a fence) and gaza up until the uprising has been closed completely as Egypt blocked it as well as Israel (hence all the tunnels).

New Banksy olympics!, by Deleted on Aug 12, 2012 0:16:58 GMT 1, I reckon it needs covering up with perspex right away incase it gets defaced or even worse that someone cuts a massive hole in the wall and then stores it for a few months in order to preserve it, then attempts to flog it at an auction with some rubbish provenance.
Its not Banksy though.
ps. You didnt go to the Brainwash show though? you aint keen on his works i remember.

Wiz if you're referring to me, no I'm not a fan of his work but still went to the party thing. All of which reaffirmed my thoughts on MBW but felt it was worth seeing what all the fuss is about... to be best informed.
Anywhoo... I saw the piece in question prior to the show/event opening and had a close look to confirm that it was indeed a pale imitation of a Banksy.

No no Speebe, i was aiming at the original poster, i remember in the past he had made some scathing comments about Brainwash prints and how he didnt like him or his art.

New Banksy olympics!, by bonesy on Aug 15, 2012 1:53:46 GMT 1, Was probably said elsewhere but..... I gotta say now that the Olympics are over that Banksys output was very disappointing.... Gotta assume 5 years ago the man would have much better utilized the situation/ media attention in his backyard. Has me wondering how much work we'll see in the coming years. If not for the Olympics then when?

He doesn't need the media attention.
You say graffiti or street art to someone who is completely none the wiser about urban art and they say Banksy. Job done on his behalf.

let the man enjoy some summer vacations... he spent 8 months trying to glue glitters on a gorilla mask!

I don't think Banksy used media attention in the past to necessarily promote himself, more to promote things he wanted to make a statement regarding. I would say there are more things relevant for him to comment on today than 5-7 years ago yet he is much more quiet. I didnt want to join the group but I am falling into the party that thinks Banksy has gotten older and with that are going to be seeing less and less of him on the streets.

New Banksy olympics!, by obeymidget on Aug 15, 2012 21:25:59 GMT 1, No, there was no big statement during the Olympics. I was expecting a big exhibition, and when I heard about the Brainwash thing, I suspected that might be a cover for it. However it didn't materialise. He is more quiet these days and I wonder what the future holds. There's some speculation that he became a father earlier this year, and that is bound to calm somebody down and refocus their priorities. The Poundland Jubilee work and the Olympic ones felt slightly tokenistic, as if he was keeping the Banksy pot boiling - but for what?
