Pistol π¬π§ Stencil Street Art β’ For Sale & Wanted, by Pistol on May 9, 2015 7:12:36 GMT 1, Recently I got slated on here for a couple of items I sent that arrived damaged which I have to say I was a bit pissed about. I have just sent another print to the states which I wrapped in tissue and craft paper (as suggested by those in the original thread). It was then put in a sturdy cardboard tube as used by diacel for transporting transparent film. It arrived in the states absolutely wrecked like a truck had run over it! Obviously the recipient is not happy he is a forum member. But what the hell do I do? He is out of pocket but if I refund him so am I. What do you reckon?

Knowing past packages have arrived damaged, did you insure it? If you didn't then you need to look at that being no.1 priority when sending your work. Because as a buyer, I would also expect to be refunded in full.
Going forward, If you have to, add the cost to the price of your artwork. I know that can be hard sometimes, because artists aren't always known for pricing things at what they are worth, but just let buyers know that you only send with insurance and that if they want the work, the amount will include insurance and in the case of a damaged piece, a note to state how you will deal with it and what will be expected of them (re images of the damaged work, be patient because it takes time to get info out of postal services etc). I know it sounds like a pain, but less of one than losing money..

Pistol π¬π§ Stencil Street Art β’ For Sale & Wanted, by Nick on May 9, 2015 10:48:48 GMT 1, If you ordered a TV from Amazon and it came with a smashed screen what would you expect to happen? This is absolutely the same. As a seller it is your responsibility to ensure the safe arrival of the good paid for. If you can't take the hit of a transit damaged item then take insurance on every one.

Pistol π¬π§ Stencil Street Art β’ For Sale & Wanted, by daniel3886 on May 9, 2015 12:13:23 GMT 1, Completely agree, totally the sellers responsibility. Relieving damaged good is always going to leave a bad taste in a buyers mouth. You could offer a piece with or without insurance at the buyers request then the liability would be with them. Even so I'd want all customers to have the best experience possible to premote reccomendation to others and return business.

If you can't take the hit of a transit damaged item then take insurance on every one. Pistol isn't Amazon therefore not the same. It's not so simple if shipping overseas as many couriers won't insure artwork and regular mail has a low insurance level. Although I'd recommend fully insured UK special delivery.
I just queried insurance from a gallery who were shipping to me.(as it seemed a low price) It was uninsured so am paying additional. They are charity status and editions are gifted to them for income so the owness was on the buyer.

Absolutely not the buyers fault it arrived damaged. As a buyer I would be hesitant to buy from someone who wouldn't replace damaged work or offer insurance. The buyer could always decline the insurance and take the risk of damage at their own expense.

Pistol π¬π§ Stencil Street Art β’ For Sale & Wanted, by 11 on May 9, 2015 13:47:46 GMT 1, Unfortunately until the buyers takes receipt of the parcel, whether in person or by other arrangements, I think you are responsible for it.
I sold something previously that I wasn't prepared to post but a buyer approached me and asked to make arrangements for their own courier. I simply ensured that the item was packaged safely and securely and the buyer made the arrangements to have it collected.
That was in-country. If shipping abroad and high-value then you really want the buyer to make arrangements via someone like flight logistics who will collect, pack and insure the item. That way the courier company ensure the product is as stated before it gets packed and from that point your responsibility ends......very few insurance companies cover damage to art, only loss - read the small print.

anyway, all of the above, if you didnt expressely state that the item wasnt insured and it was buyers risk, then you should morally swallow the hit and refund him
I sent out a massive batch of stuff a few years ago and saved about Β£100 by skipping insurance - one was trashed in transit and wiped out saving + a lot more.I always send insured now and the buyer has to lump it - I cant that risk that all over again

Besides it will probably be a lot of hassle, i am very sad that we lost another very cool print... It is completely trashed.......
I for one will never ship expensive prints or art over to the states... Seems like all the prints i received and send over were damaged or got lost... This is it boys no more USA for me...

Insurrance only works when it get lost. If the package gets damaged it's the reponsability of the sender and not the post (even they don't treat packeges very well sometimes...)
