Mobstr ๐ฌ๐ง Street Art โข Print Release โข For Sale, by bullet on Jun 18, 2012 0:38:11 GMT 1, Just read that thread. Its the same think with (and sorry to keep saying his name, its the best example) banksy and his early stuff. The street work was very good but the quality of prints and originals (lenin on skates) was very poor.
We must not get sidetracked here, its his street work which is the showcase, not a screen print.
The street work for thr most part is refreshing and a breath of freh air with all this stagnant corporate stuff about. Dface and smirnoff (for example)- a smirnoff bottle pranced up in some concrete like some modern art? Your not buying dface, your buying into smirnoff. A flashy launch party with paid actors and bobs your teapot. Yawn. Ive been in those meetings where the creative agency brainstorms a clever tie in for a brand. If you saw the process you would be quite sick. Its all contrived and try hard.
Take a look at the mobstr real life text messages piece, its quite brilliant as an idea.
Would it work on a piece of art... God no.

Mobstr ๐ฌ๐ง Street Art โข Print Release โข For Sale, by escapree on Jun 18, 2012 4:42:13 GMT 1, I've been following Mobstr's stuff for a while now (even mentioned his print back in Sept - urbanartassociation.com/index.cgi?action=display&board=urbanart&thread=87350&page=1), and I was just waiting for this kind of discussion to start here.. I totally understand both parties here, but what you're both missing is the fact that Mobster's work isn't presented as a high end art, something that is incredible special or unique, or something that should be appreciated as a work of art in the 1st place.. he's not releasing his work through big galleries, having PR team hyping anything about him, having celebrity collectors, or doing ANY of that stuff (or at least I never got that feeling).. the way I see it, he's a guy that has quite few funny/clever ideas, and he's got the balls/time/skills to turn them into reality for other people to enjoy.. nothing that's meant to be breathtaking or groundbreaking, so let's not try to label it as such, or claim that it isn't... hope someone agrees with me and sees my point there... thanks!
+1 for you sal

Well said! Love the photos of his work and living where I am I'll never see it here so having a piece on my wall will do quite nicely.
