Mobstr ๐ฌ๐ง Street Art โข Print Release โข For Sale, by james on Jun 24, 2012 19:20:01 GMT 1, this guy (mobstr) goes around painting walls using imagination and displaying humour, takes the mundane out of everyday walls and gives me something to look at that i like. I want to buy his work because i like it, to support him and to say thank you to him for poducing the art and putting it out there for me to look at and admire.

Well said, that's how all this started, let's hope that's how it continues.

...this.
Although as soon as we see something we like, all the talk of cost and edition sizes does show how desperate things have become.

What gets me about this kind of crap is it's roots are in the pranks of Abbie Hoffman and the yipsters and that set of people, except that for them it was politically driven, not done to exploit people for capitalist gains by selling exclusive limited editions.
Today any kid with a can of spraypaint can start stenciling walls and open up a myshopify site and start cashing in. And what's even worse is all the people eating it up. Even if you do like something it doesn't mean you have to consume and commodify it. And all the jibber jabber about "edition sizes" too? Who cares. It's just lame from so many angles.

I agree with this. His work on the streets is witty and inteligent. It makes me smile. That's why I like it. Even if some here dont like it, at least he's out there painting. As for this encouraging others to pick up a spray can, well good. I fail to see any objection to the guy making a few quid for supplies by selling a few canvasses. And if people want to buy them to remind them of his work on the street, that's all well and good in my book too. Anyone buying because they think he will be the next big thing? I doubt it. The painting that most people have bought is from an open edition for a few quid. I suspect that is all it will ever be worth, and that too is good in my opinion.

I whole heartedly agree with that comment. The huh? piece made me chuckle after seing it in about 4 separate locations for 2 or 3 weeks when riding into work (Hackney Rd got hit hard) - i bought one purely for that reason alone, something to remind me of that normally mundane cycle into the office. I guess i'm lucky like that as I see Stik, Roa, Sweet Toof and many many other works every day where i live. I like the fact that i live in an area that encourages these things to happen & appear regularly

Yawn, who's angry? It's way too trite and boring to get angry.
If you think this guy is witty and has "imagination" then you don't have any yourself. Rehashed cliches in the most boring way. Art may be debatable but crap is not.
A bit harsh there mate, it may not be on everyones want or like list but it is clearly on quite a few, like all art there will always be some you don't like it doesn't necessarily make it crap.
