Banksy, Basquiat and the Barbican, by JW on Sept 18, 2017 14:05:03 GMT 1, I quite like the crown Ferris wheel one. I still don't get the search one. Seems repetitive and not quite clear on meaning or connection. Is this corner busy? Would be interesting to know the logistics of two works on opposite walls. If it's a somewhat populated area I'd assume you'd need to work on both at the same time no?
Just checked it out. The Ferris Wheel was not attracting as much attention as the portrait, but it is very nice.
Beech St gets a bit of traffic, but Golden Lane isn't very busy. I think people tend to avoid walking through the area in the middle of the night as it's a bit dingy.

Invader LED Print, by JW on Sept 12, 2017 20:56:47 GMT 1, Got mine and it looks great in the flesh. It's dorky as hell, but evokes the 80's/90's video game culture for me. And the silly bun fight to get it. Good times.
I think they're all going to have the little gaps on the blue dots in the bottom right corner. Even the AP from Laz on Paddle8 has them. Zoom in. It actually makes them look slightly 3D... but I'll be honest and say I'd rather it was consistent across the board, but not a deal breaker. Also, why did Invader number them right across the embossed Laz stamp?
Regardless, it's my favourite Damien Hirst ever. (Image that collaboration!)

Invader LED or Pejac Scattercrow ?, by JW on Sept 12, 2017 12:25:14 GMT 1, I really like the depth and messages in Pejac's pieces, but think his best work is to come if his studio work is anything to go by. I missed out on Scattercrow and can't justify paying current prices on the secondary market - not that they're wrong. Small edition size + infrequent releases + demand (hype?). We've seen it recently with Stik, no reason why it can't be the same for Pejac.
But for me, Invader's done the hard yards and has arguably been under-priced for years.

Banksy, Walled Off Hotel, GIFT SHOP, by JW on Sept 11, 2017 21:02:13 GMT 1, Stay safe.
I was there during Ramadan, which in hindsight was a good move as everything was fairly subdued. The kids in the refugee camp said that the soldiers tend to take it easy on them during that time...

Invader LED Print, by JW on Sept 8, 2017 20:21:51 GMT 1, Flight Logistics are well know as being top notch, and I can vouch for that.
Pest Control use them.
Just got my shipping notification too and am pleased they're handling it.

Banksy, Walled Off Hotel, GIFT SHOP, by JW on Sept 8, 2017 10:36:40 GMT 1, to say that a hook was sold out even though no actual customers have posted a picture of the hook.
The hooks are only pre-orders for now right? So I wouldn't expect to see anyone with them yet.

Banksy, Walled Off Hotel, GIFT SHOP, by JW on Sept 7, 2017 13:46:48 GMT 1, Don't want to turn this into a begging thread, but if anyone could pick me up a box set too I would be eternally grateful.
Could perhaps trade for a shirt they don't have listed on the site (+ the cash obviously!)?

Ben Eine - Data Dollar Store, by JW on Sept 6, 2017 18:17:02 GMT 1, Went there after work. Naturally all the prints were gone for the day but I got a t-shirt and mug in exchange for 6 photos of my choice. Can't complain about that.
Apparently there would be about another 25 prints released tomorrow at 8:30am so I'm out of luck on that front given I'm at work then.
They do keep the photos for 30 days. They asked me to select photos of just me in it... which was a struggle as I'm not big on selfies. But they crop/blur out other people anyway.

Invader LED Print, by JW on Sept 1, 2017 20:27:18 GMT 1, I don't get what the point would be to talk about missing a release? To commiserate? Seems like the thread would just then continue on with no purpose Uh, someone asked members who missed out to comment. I was just responding to his question since nobody else did. And I thought it was funny because 10 people chimed in pretty quickly when someone else asked who succeeded in getting one. I responded to the question to counter the accusation that none of the prints were actually released to the public. I was also genuinely surprised/over the moon that I'd grabbed one, and don't want to simply moan when I miss out. Nothing to do with bragging.
My checkout process was absolute chaos. Like almost every drop is.
My ping was around 40ms at the time, and my broadband speed is so rubbish I've got my 3rd Sky/Openreach engineer visit taking place tomorrow.
I was just lucky. I didn't stop checking once the Sold Out messager appeared. I kept going for over 15 minutes, and at 16:18 I had two emails in my inbox confirming the sale.
On another note, anyone contacted the gallery to see if they can pick it up rather than have it delivered?

STIK & Sheila Chandra book signing & talk London 30th Aug, by JW on Aug 30, 2017 22:25:12 GMT 1, Great talk. They are uploading it onto youtube for all those that couldnt make it. Stik kindly signed my poster that comes along with the book, and also drew a detailed picture for me on the front page of his red STIK book. Anyone have any advice on whether to take the page out of the book to preserve or leave it in? I was thinking of having it framed properly. He's actually a genuinely nice guy. It makes you appreciate his art even more. Sheila Chandra and Stik both signed the book being promoted - for any up and coming artists, it sounds like a great read: Organizing for creative people, by Sheila Chandra. Side note - I can't remember if he mentioned it in his intro or later in the evening - but he did hint at taking a break. Taking a break?? Lol. It's not really a surprise given the topic of the book/talk though, is it?
I've not read it but apparently topcis cover - "counter-intuitive creativity tips, creative well-being, including artist support systems, career well-being" etc. Career breaks are all the rage, even if you're an artist.
I had a ticket to go but got stuck at work... probably would have benefitted from the advice given tonight.
Another topic jumped out at me actually - "how to manage copyright issues and legal paperwork". On Stik's East Dulwich "residence" 5 years ago, when having a quick chat to him we talked about an ad Nokia (?) was playing using a photo of his studio door... and he wasn't happy. He didn't seem sure what he could/should do - it's public art after all, but why should a corporation profit off it? I had no answer, but perhaps Sheila Chandra did.
I have very fond memories of that day. Ingrid who ran it was a delight. She unfortunately passed away earlier this year. I only met her once but she had such warmth and passion for all types of art. She invited everyone on the walking tour into her home to display Stik's work in her backyard. Then offered everyone tea.
Stik's body of work may be simple, but there's a complex, genuine character behind it. And that's what I see when I look at every one of his pieces. Walk past him on the street and you may not look twice, but spend a moment with him and you'll get it.

Jason Revok ๐บ๐ธ Graffiti Artist โข Print Release โข For Sale, by JW on Aug 29, 2017 21:38:25 GMT 1, Didn't expect the yellow glow to be so visible! Nice! Same as snowboards/skis with fluoro bottoms. The level of reflection is surprising when it's so sunny - but it's all about the bright white background being there for the light to bounce off.
Not a big fan of this print, but I quite like this detail. Though it's probably going to disappoint for 10 out of 12 months a year in England.

Invader LED Print, by JW on Aug 24, 2017 20:41:54 GMT 1, Almost every online drop is a pain. Beyond luck, it's about perseverance and commitment (bots excluded).
I've learned to never give up when when I see the Sold Out sign. These days they'll tell you on Twitter/Facebook/Instagram when they're really done.
Credit cards get declined, people try their luck with no real interest to buy, people hit refresh at a critical time. Every drop has its own deficiencies.
This 1 star member is fairly chuffed today. No interest in selling.
And to add just a touch of positivity to this thread, here's my RVE just back from MFM.

Do Banksy's prints feel dated now?, by JW on Aug 7, 2017 22:14:02 GMT 1, It feels a little like artists are nervous to tackle some of the big subjects in the world at the moment. In the past when many of them were maybe only known within the scene and were possibly not full time artists, maybe they would produce work a little more controversial, but now with Galleries, Managers, PR, Social Media to worry about, have things got a little weak? Actually, thinking about that more, Banksy did tackle a big subject with the election print release. He wasn't afraid to possibly upset over half the population by encouraging people to vote a particular way. So it was good he wasn't afraid to do something so controversial, and something he really believed in, but of course in the end it was a bit of a disaster. He also tackled Brexit.
Fair question though, but I don't think people are avoiding the big subjects. It's just unfortunate that they are so disgustingly obvious it's hard to be witty/smart/subtle about them without coming across as trying too hard. The urban art world is probably still leaning left overall, so controversial works are still going to appeal to most.
And what is there to be addressed that hasn't been done already? Art (or "art") is so readily available to the masses now, your original concept has probably already been created and shared by some hack on Instagram.
Self-censorship is now down to - "am I being too obvious?" and "has this been done already?" rather than "is this offensive?"

Your latest Art Purchase?, by JW on Aug 5, 2017 23:10:12 GMT 1, Big, bright and beautiful. I have to say these large pieces by Seen are fabulous. Posting a better pic to show size of this fabulous canvas. Yes that's my dining room table and my dog Jobin. Have yet to figure out how to frame this cause this one has no boarders. Any ideas? I'm in the "stretch it" camp. You'll see most of the piece when you walk around/by it. How often will you just stand directly in front of it?
This is a little more abstract than the ones with all the letters, so I don't think you lose much by having some of it wrapped around the sides. I think it would look better than the sides being white.
