Neckface, by Street Art Fan on Oct 8, 2014 6:24:11 GMT 1, Hey all, Have a friend looking for a neckface, and as he isn't as mainstream as some others we discuss here, and i don'tsee much movement on his market, i figured id go for a private sale rather than contacting a gallery. Anyone know what originals are going for these days? recent prices or anything of that nature? also please pm if you have something to offer... New Image has some prints and originals for sale... www.newimageartgallery.com/artists/neck-face/ Just re-read your post and realized that you are looking for a private sale, not a gallery purchase. Sorry about that.

Asking for prices for private sales, by Street Art Fan on Oct 5, 2014 12:35:11 GMT 1, Not sure what the big deal is. Maybe the person who asked missed out on the opportunity to buy it and genuinely wanted to know the sales price as a frame of reference?
Why the secrecy?

Interesting Times..., by Street Art Fan on Oct 3, 2014 12:45:44 GMT 1, Every thread turns into a what will it be worth thread. Very little interest shown now from people in the actual image or the development of artists. The Harrington thread was the same. The guy has just put on the show of the year (in my opinion or at least it looked it from the pictures) and yet the majority of the thread is about a 400$ print and how much it can be flipped for. Shame. Fully agree. Wish I could triple-like your post, dungle.

New RAE Pieces go now..., by Street Art Fan on Sept 27, 2014 12:45:50 GMT 1, With a degree in art, I stand by my statement that anyone who discounts an artist's work solely because it looks similar to another artists work, knows very little about art in general. As a general rule, whenever someone has to grasp onto the old fallback of "I have a degree," whether real or imagined, it's because their argument is on very shaky ground. The fact is they're painting identical subject matter using the same techniques in a nearly identical style. Anyone who wants to argue that their styles are "vastly different," or anything other than derivative clearly knows nothing about art. With all due respect, I'd be interested to hear your thoughts on Blek Le Rat and Banksy.

Thinking about catching the train up tomorrow to check it out. Anyone know if the print has sold out already? If anyone's still there, can you ask how many are left?

Chloe Early ๐ฎ๐ช New Paintings โข Show News โข Art For Sale, by Street Art Fan on Sept 12, 2014 12:21:47 GMT 1, I like that Chloe Early print as well - it's lovely - but I'm not really fond of giclees. Relatedly, I really like Connor Harrington's "The Killer Inside". Laz describes it as a "two-color photopolymer etching on Hahnemuhle 300gsm paper". Is this also a giclee? Apologies in advance for hijacking the thread! :-) It is giclรฉe / inkjet / digital / pigment prints that are largely the same. The difference in names is mainly down to branding, marketing and fashion. Press the 'Start' button on the printer, and out pops a print. As many already know, unless combined with other mediums, this is a purely mechanised, computerised way of producing multiples. Fast, easy and cheap. Ideal for lazy, indifferent or greedy publishers, dealers and/or artists, because (i) minimal time and effort are required and (ii) a maximum amount of profit can be realised. Proponents generally talk about the accuracy of giclรฉe reproductions. This is fair enough; you can't get more accurate than through a photograph. But often that argument is also disingenuous, used to detract attention away from underlying commercial motives. Or it's ignorant of what is achievable by other means when the expertise is present along with a willingness to invest in time, energy and money. An additional advantage with giclรฉes is that prints can be generated on command, as and when orders come through, reducing the need for storage and advance financial outlay for art that may or may not sell. However, for enthusiasts who value the process of printmaking โ and who, in their flawed or quaint romanticism, may even consider that process just as important as the finished work โ the non-artisanal methods of creating giclรฉes make them a less than ideal option. Unless the cost-savings are being passed on by releasing affordable prints accessible to most collectors, my own rather militant position (which seems similar to yours) is "Fรบck giclรฉes". Photopolymer prints are different. Photopolymer is a relatively modern intaglio printing method. Quite environmentally-friendly, with no acids used or corrosive gases produced. The reference to "etching" in the description you mentioned above is unhelpful and misleading because photopolymer printmaking doesn't actually involve etching. It is a basic technique in comparison. The training and skill needed are nowhere near the levels required to produce an etching. Very roughly, the process is as follows: A thin metal plate covered with soft, UV-light-sensitive plastic is exposed to light that is shined through a transparency of the image being reproduced. The plastic cures and hardens in the areas exposed to the most light (being the lighter parts of the image, or non-image parts). The plastic stays soft in the areas exposed to the least light (being the darker parts of the image, or the image itself). When the plate is rinsed in warm water or solvent, the soft plastic washes away and you end up with surface recesses in the form of the image. These recesses will hold the printing ink, allowing the image to then be transferred to paper using a press. Great post. Many, many thanks for this, met.

How to tell is framed print is drymounted, by Street Art Fan on Aug 23, 2014 11:54:08 GMT 1, FYI...
Hinge Mounting has the function of securing the artwork either to the backing board or to the mat board without permanently altering the artwork. Hinges should also be removable with either water or a small amount of alcohol. A hinge should be made of a stable material with sufficient strength to hold the artwork in place, yet it should tear free if the picture is dropped. The reasoning behind this is that it is better for the hinge to tear than for the artwork to tear. The most common materials used for hinges are Japanese rice papers, archival pressure-sensitive tapes, and linen tape.
Japanese papers made from the traditional fibers have been known for their pH neutrality, strength, lightness in weight, and excellent aging characteristics. Today, however, most Japanese papers are no longer made from only the bast fiber of kozo, mitsumata, or mulberry. Sulfite pulp is commonly used as a filler in many of the traditional papers and, in some instances, the paper is all sulfite pulp. It is therefore important to establish the content of the Japanese paper when selecting it to use as a hinge for fine artwork.
One reason the Japanese papers are selected for making hinges is that when they are hand torn they give a frayed edge. When attached to the back of art-work, this kind of edge tends to show less on the front side. The adhesion of the artwork to the hinge is accomplished with the use of a water-based adhesive, such as the one described below. Careful control of the amount of paste is important or the moisture may deform the paper, which will show up as little bumps on the front side of the artwork.
Regards ![;)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/wink.png)
I was previously oblivious about this. Thank you for posting. Yes, thanks for posting. Very informative.

I'm out. I can't do it anymore., by Street Art Fan on Aug 14, 2014 12:55:17 GMT 1, I'm out. I can't do it anymore. I am lucky enough to own a Banksy print that I honestly love. I got it years ago when the prices were reasonable (compared to now). Recently I thought, you know what, it would be cool to have another on the wall so I started the search. My initial finds were a bit of a shock but I persevered and continued on. I was offered one or two prints for a decent price and almost pulled the trigger but they weren't a print that I really loved and figured I was only buying it because of the value and I would have been getting a good deal. I am (more than) lucky to have secured a piece of art that I love years ago and I am thankful every day that I look at it. I feel sorry for people coming to the party this late in the game. My decision - buy a few pieces from other artists I like and go on another overseas holiday. Life is for getting out there and experiencing things. When the cost of an unsigned print is the same as a holiday and some other art, it's really hard to justify buying a piece of paper with a pretty picture on it that doesn't even have a scribbled pencil signature on it. Mind you, if a print that I really like comes across my path for a good price, of course I will pick it up, but those chances are slim to none, and I am fine with that. I am the first to admit, this is easier for me as I already own a piece. And as a side note, what have I discovered in this recent search: 1) Everyone thinks they have a "mint" print, even when its been handled and framed 2) Private prices are the pretty much the same as Gallery prices these days 3) Judging by the want-ads, peolpe don't seem to care what banksy they have as long as it is a banksy Reminds me of the time Truffaut asked: "Is the cinema more important than life?" Our hobbies, obsessions, addictions - whatever you want to call them - make life enjoyable and interesting. They give it meaning. But they are no substitute for life itself.
