Starting my collection, by maxamaxa2 on Oct 5, 2015 7:54:51 GMT 1, Galleries are quite accommodating usually, just send an email asking to see the inventory of that artists work with pricing. Get on their lists for previews of shows, and youll begin to see what the range for artists are. when youre about to buy, look at any inventories you can to compare pricing, or too see how your art may or may not be appreciating. Also be patient, if your budget is lower, then you'll be grabbing smaller works, there are amazing artists that sell significant works for $3000 and under (Kevin Peterson, probably a good pick up right now) some original drawings beginning even at $150, such as Nosego nosego.bigcartel.com/If there are works or artists you like, and you have questions, members here are super helpful. You can PM me anytime to bounce ideas and im sure a ton of the seasoned collectors here feel the same way.
Thanks a lot for the tips. Ill take it slow, the taste over the first year of a genre/hobby tend to sway a lot (lesson learned in my wrist watch-hobby, buying a lot of hyped junk in the start that never got used) The budget is quite small so pieces for over $3000 would sting... but it tends to stretch over time and the deeper into a hobby you get Thanks for the warm welcome and the offer of help!

Starting my collection, by maxamaxa2 on Oct 2, 2015 8:52:27 GMT 1, Originals over prints. Buy what you love Read books Dont believe the hype Engulf yourself in an artists collection of works before buying, know who they are as much as you can Enjoy it, Its art. But seriously, stop buying expensive multiples when the money can be researched and go into a 1 of a kind. In this game, its quality over quantity. Great tips. Even thou I have collected art for a while im pretty new to this area and must say that the reason that i tend to fall for more prints than originals is simply the easy access. There are hardly any originals ever marketed or even priced. When browsing around you see prices on every print but always "contact for price" on the originals which is quite frustrating when new and you don't want to contact the gallery every time since you have no clue of the price range. For my other art its easy to follow auctions and such but this urban art is seldom at auctions (especially not in sweden) so its much harder to get a grip of.
Dont know why the prices of originals are so secret but when your new its quite a barrier to get over when you don't have a clue if its affordable or if its 20 000ยฃ
Any tips in both that area and for some beginner books would be highly appreciated.

Carl Cashman ๐ฌ๐ง New Painting โข Print Release, by maxamaxa2 on Oct 1, 2015 10:43:59 GMT 1, Queued online or queued in person. Not really that much difference, still waste time except you get fresh air with one. I have yet to see the presale offer on IG. I follow CC with notifications and I didn't see one. That's not to say there wasn't but I can't find it. I'm happy for other forumites to show me a screenshot.
Not really any time wasted, but I agree that getting peoples hope up for a release and then sell 87% of the lots pre release is quite s**tty. And to be honest, it must make a ton of extra job for the galleries since people will stop trusting release dates and everyone starts to mail them before every release instead of just waiting for their go.
I can imagine the riots if Stick would have sold all except 2 of the stick baby pre release without announcing it haha
When making pre release of some sort, keeping at least 50% of the edition to the real release and clearly announce the terms for all interested seems like good manner. Not telling 15 will be released and ony release 2 at the launch date, but ok it sure looks good to tell the artist sold out 3seconds after release and I guess money talks over manner. Puts quite a bad taste to the gallery name and the artist thou, sadly. Like the print, but don't really want it on my walls any more tbh.

ai weiwei in his studio in beijing signed by man himself, by maxamaxa2 on Sept 24, 2015 15:30:51 GMT 1, Sounds good, but a photo and price will help you sell. Seems like he did put the ad up while waiting in que. Much of the text seem to refer to the portrait in the studio, but the edition and the signing seem to refer to the self portrait? boyce is it the portrait or the selfie?
Here is the selfie. The portrait have been the main photo for advertising the event so its easy enough to google
