Views on train graffiti ?, by wimpy on Nov 17, 2007 0:02:16 GMT 1, Great post, rudeboy.
And, yeah, it wasn't just about gettin' up ON trains but along train routes in Philly and NY. It wasn't just about the quality of one piece, but how many times and it what places along a line you could do. It is sort of like a "line" in skateboarding with a particular flow and difficulty of tricks.
If you think "tagging" doesn't have meaning, I suggest looking at some of the really old stuff in Philly and New York. Often they wrote little blurbs or stories next to their name or the spot had some kind of other significance than just being highly visible.
Respect to Cornbread! Delta Phi Soul!

Dain ๐บ๐ธ New York Street Art โข Collaged Portraits, by wimpy on Dec 10, 2007 2:19:53 GMT 1, Nice, ron. They ship fast as can be.
Just like Faile stuff, you will be 10x more happy when you see it in person (perhaps even moreso with Dain).

Dain ๐บ๐ธ New York Street Art โข Collaged Portraits, by wimpy on Dec 10, 2007 0:59:40 GMT 1, I'll say to people that it was '89 because I was at that one.
I think it really is anyhow. I know Marciano got knocked down early then came back and won in the first fight, and then KO'd Walcott in round 1 of the 2nd fight (the Dain image). I think Leonard came back from early knockdowns for a win in the first and a controversial draw in the 2nd fight, too.
I definitely attach some personal meaning to all of those.

Dain ๐บ๐ธ New York Street Art โข Collaged Portraits, by wimpy on Nov 14, 2007 22:48:43 GMT 1, Couldn't help but share that one as I've come across a few artists I like through browsing forums. As nice as it looked in the pic on the site, it is 10x more impressive in person (even moreso than my first Faile was a shock when I pulled it out of a tube).

Dain ๐บ๐ธ New York Street Art โข Collaged Portraits, by wimpy on Nov 14, 2007 22:22:57 GMT 1, Figured I'd share this piece I just picked up. The amount of hand-touches and layers of screenprinting are amazing, eh?
www.lintnyc.com
They also have some great Bast, Aiko, and Skewville stuff all at pretty nice prices.
Anyone else seen or heard of anything from Dain before? I'd love to see some more of his work.

Faile Site Update, by wimpy on Nov 12, 2007 17:34:22 GMT 1, One thing to consider is that all of us have the luxury of being members of this board. I think there are plenty of fans who miss opportunities to buy stuff because either a) they're not aware of this forum or b) don't have the time. Should they be penalized? I think most of us on the forum are biased because we've grown accustomed to getting stuff because we know the system. For what it's worth, I think this is good because it will bring new fans and collectors into the community. Which in turn will help promote the street art "scene" and be better for us all in the long term. I received a bunch of PMs but am busy monitoring the site. Will respond to messages soon.
Yep... seems the haters are the ones who are jaded old cranky members that already have the massive collections and were used to shopping rather easily in the past.
Good luck to everyone in the lotto.

Faile Site Update, by wimpy on Nov 12, 2007 17:27:56 GMT 1, Also, faile dont seem to have any problem with people flipping their work. They seem more then happy to offer provenance to anyone who needs it and why else what you need it besides flipping.
Ummmm... to know you aren't buying something fake???

Faile Site Update, by wimpy on Nov 12, 2007 16:58:32 GMT 1, I've decided this 'lottery' bollocks is just that... Utter bollocks First time I've really wanted a Faile, and I mean REALLY too and I've got about a 1 in 10000 chance of getting the f**king thing. Bring back proper releases imo
It would already be gone to someone else and then you'd be throwing a fit. At least you still have a chance and a bit of hope.

Faile Site Update, by wimpy on Nov 12, 2007 16:52:26 GMT 1, Have we stopped now of is there more to come?
They did say it was going to be a small release.
I guess they meant print sizes AND overall amount of pieces available.

Banksy @ Bonham's NY in May, by wimpy on Feb 26, 2008 15:58:57 GMT 1, Was flippin' through the March issue of Art in America while in my home-office (on the crapper) this morning and stumbled across this...
If someone shared this already, I apologize.
I found it interesting that I never see anything remotely similar in this particular magazine. Perhaps a bit of a step here in the states for all you investor types.
EDIT: It reads an estimate of $120-180k. 24x28" on board or something if I remember correctly.

DOLK "Prisoner" Print, by wimpy on Jan 8, 2008 11:47:01 GMT 1, Similar idea from Dolk, but far more poorly executed. It says absolutely nothing to me... but each to their own and I'm sure some will like it... For someone that can do such good street work his prints always seem to miss the target for me, some more than others
I'm in complete agreement. It seems they just lack actual thought; seems like Dolk picks a subject but doesn't TAKE it anywhere... ever.
