eBay and CoA problem. , by nealmason1986 on Oct 5, 2012 12:11:40 GMT 1, I was wondering if I could pick people's brains on something!
I have sold 2 pieces on eBay for about 80 each meaning I have taken a loss but its not about the money and I don't have space or money to frame them any more!
I have about 25 pieces of urban art etc ranging from daleast, phlegm down to Tom French and copyright!
I have one CoA for all the artwork I own and that's for the Tom French piece.
I have bought from art republic and Zero cool as well as straight from artists like dal and phlegm.
The person who bought my art on eBay has asked for CoA for my copyright pieces! I have told him I don't have them and never have had CoA for my pieces however I can supply a reciept etc and this was his reply.
"OK, well I guess you have been unlucky. I too have a very large collection of urban art prints from small artists to big name artists and I have a COA for every one of them. If the artist does not provide a COA then the gallery should provide one on behalf of the gallery at least, and if they dont automatically provide one, they will send one if you ask them for it.
In most cases when selling signed editions the gallery will have bought the works directly from the artist, and being a gallery they have to be able to authenticate the works and they should be able to provide authentication to the buyer. I have asked several galleries for a COA when the artist has not provided one and they have obliged.
Its not that I doubt that these works are Copyright, I can tell that they are, but its that prints should have some provenance to help them keep their value, and to help with resale.
I wonder if you could obtain provenance from zero cool and art republic regarding your purchases and also if you could send me the receipts from those galleries as well?"
What's people's opinions and if this person is right shall I get CoA for all my art?

eBay and CoA problem. , by Art Fan 2011 on Oct 5, 2012 12:25:45 GMT 1, Maybe he should of asked all these questions before buying - Ive purchased from Zero Cool and Art Republic before and not had a COA, if I ever sold the pieces I would just provide the original invoice to provide proof of purchase from the gallery.
I guess he himself could go and ask for a COA but not sure if gallery would provide one. Il also add that most of the prints ive got dont have COA`s, alot of artists dont provide them for print releases - good luck anyway!

eBay and CoA problem. , by nealmason1986 on Oct 5, 2012 12:30:16 GMT 1, Cheers guys!
I didn't state in the listing that's CoA was included so it shouldn't be expected! As well as that I have offered to send original invoices.
I have bought alot of art and sold some of the pieces I can no longer keep and never ever had this problem!

eBay and CoA problem. , by Dr Plip on Oct 5, 2012 12:37:13 GMT 1, They have a large collection with COA for ALL of them? Wow.
As long as there's a visible chain of ownership, I don't see what the person's problem is.
They sound very anal and a bit of a customer from hell.

eBay and CoA problem. , by twist65 on Oct 5, 2012 13:18:04 GMT 1, as others have said, most purchases don't come with a "proper" COA anyway so I wouldn't worry about it - you didn't advertise it with one, just send him what you have got and if he wants anything further its up to him to contact galleries / websites etc.
The buyer was happy to pull the trigger based on you advertising the print without the COA, if it was that big a deal he should have mentioned it beforehand. I wouldn't bother trying to get COAs for your other stuff too, if you have original receipts/invoices then that should more than do the job..

This guy sounds like a piece of work. Ive been collecting for 10+ years and have only had like 5 CoA''s. That's out of hundreds of prints and pieces of art. Just tell this guy he can always send what you sold back to you, or that you can just refund him etc.

eBay and CoA problem. , by spencerlee on Oct 7, 2012 7:29:20 GMT 1, Only recently have people started INSISTING on COAs. As someone says, artists like Copyright et al, what's the point? Only big ticket artists are worth it IMO.
