"YOUR PERSONAL GRAFFITI JESUS" snub nose by zhao, by Gentle Mental on Feb 14, 2013 17:39:06 GMT 1, the gang at highlyframable are all terribly proud to be releasing their first snub nose prints on the legendary Brooklynite Gallery site!
without a doubt, Elik's the pick of the bunch... but it's clear as day zhao & mikael are so proud just to sharing the same HTML frame!
my buddy, zhao would love to hear your thoughts on his print...
all comments will be greatly appreciated!
6x6 300gsm watercolor paper. Acrylic, watercolor and Vietnamese coffee. All hand painted and unique. Numbered and signed.
"all street art lovers should have an image of a mythical street art god to worship to - this is a super perfect amulet for office desks and home shelves. lucky lucky. bless. bless. bless." -ZHAO

"YOUR PERSONAL GRAFFITI JESUS" snub nose by zhao, by Gentle Mental on Feb 15, 2013 0:37:08 GMT 1, hey! thanks for the feedback! super cool. will pass the comments on (though I'm sure zhao'll be reading..)
FYI - the piece was a lighthearted portrait of "shepard" fairey... yes a dumb joke... nothing too serious.. he made the piece half drunk, but he really liked the effect...
and zhao is still doing stuff on weiwei and politics. for snub nose he wanted do something fun.
@aiww found it funny too... "haha" said the man.
though we're not sure if he gets the Shepard reference... anyhoo... thanks!

"YOUR PERSONAL GRAFFITI JESUS" snub nose by zhao, by Dr Plip on Feb 15, 2013 2:43:09 GMT 1, I like the idea, but I think the background and surrounding detail all become a bit overwhelming when it's all one colour. Personally, I would have erased the sheep and a lot of the background images. Just left Jesus with his paint and bucket. OK, maybe I'd have left one sheep. Perhaps with a heart painted on the side
I like the idea of using coffee to print it. Coffee and tea are really hot right now when it comes to prints.
Did Zhao try printing any with red wine? Would that have worked?
Maybe making the whole thing on a communion wafer, using red wine??
I don't know where you'd go to get that done.
Edit: But having said all that, well done and congratulations on your first Snub-Nose.

I hope you don't consider this rude, but I did a quick mock-up. I do think that the background might benefit from being a lighter colour. Then the J-man would stand out a bit more. I really like the concept though.
Sorry about the heart and red additions. I just wanted to see what it would look like.
I think I Brainwashed it.

"YOUR PERSONAL GRAFFITI JESUS" snub nose by zhao, by bandyman on Feb 15, 2013 7:21:06 GMT 1, My tuppence worth: I find it quite cluttered. You need to stand a long way back from the image to see and understand what's going on but doing so loses the detail.

"YOUR PERSONAL GRAFFITI JESUS" snub nose by zhao, by Gentle Mental on Feb 15, 2013 8:51:28 GMT 1, Zhao sends his grateful Thanks everyone!
Cutting and pasting from his note: Reason for the smudge and clutter and coffee is to give it an old relic, stinky feel like an old hotel Gideon bible faded bookmark thing very personal yet gross and ambiguous . Keeping it clean would Allow the idea to pop like a poster. But I m too shy and careless to make things that cool and slick. . Thanks so much for all the comments. Will work harder on the next one!

"YOUR PERSONAL GRAFFITI JESUS" snub nose by zhao, by Dr Plip on Feb 18, 2013 0:28:35 GMT 1, That's great, thank you very much. And I'm intrigued to see what Zhao does.
Also, while I'm here, I'm curious to know what the worm-like creatures represent in Mikael's work. Are they technology?

"YOUR PERSONAL GRAFFITI JESUS" snub nose by zhao, by brookesjoe on Feb 18, 2013 0:59:23 GMT 1, It makes me feel a little ill.
Colours are off, the image makes Brainwash seem like Picasso.
Why is he wearing a full face chemical gas mask in the first place? Is it because he's 'out painting' with a roller?
What happened to intelligent, thought provoking edgy street art?
