Unsigned V Signed Banksy debate, by philw on Aug 9, 2013 16:09:46 GMT 1, in the grand scheme of things are unsigned Banksys stupid buys?
I have had this discussion with a couple folks and they seem to think signed Banksy are the only way to go. As we all know that signature comes with quit the premium.
So what would you do or what do you do if you donโt have the funds for an overall amazing banksy collection ( especially these days with prices). Where will prices go from here?
A number of unsigned classic images ? 1 or 2 classic iconic unsigned (GWB, LIITA) ? 1 classic signed image? 1 or 2 second tier signed images ( colored trolleys, Chocolates) ? 1 classic iconic signed image?
Kind of talking in terms of investment purposes. I mean I wouldn't buy if I didn't love the image, but I like all banksys : )

Unsigned V Signed Banksy debate, by paoe on Aug 9, 2013 16:22:30 GMT 1, As an in investment Art will always be one of the most speculative due to the inherent value being about ยฃ5 of materials.
If it is as an investment it's always better to buy the best in terms of quality and rarity because due to the market demand having a larger effect on the smaller numbers.
In addition to that if there where an edition of 25 works for instance, 20 odd of which where brought by sellers who have enough money never to sell.. A few of the others get damaged or destroyed, you hold something which will command a much higher return in a supply and demand model than an edition of 300 where 20 got damaged.
The other thing to remember is that is a load more people are coming into the market for lower priced items due to PR etc.. The market for the rarer items will grow as well.
There you go, my 2 cents

Unsigned V Signed Banksy debate, by dotdot on Aug 9, 2013 16:35:36 GMT 1, prices go up and down.
if there's a lot for sale.. then perhaps the price will go down. if there's not a lot for sale... then perhaps the reverse.
you never know andipa might have another show soon... (anyone remember the queues last time..) ..and that wasn't even for a real show.
it's a long time since Bristol.. and those Ghetto outings... (prob not happen again due to safety concerns).
..if you're keen save and wait.. patience often is important...

I'm don't mean I think they won't increase in value I just think its a stupid price for a bit of paper...

Unsigned V Signed Banksy debate, by johnnyh on Aug 9, 2013 18:49:50 GMT 1, Buy what you can when you can and pay what you can afford. There will always be people who can afford more and buy more. Just as there will always be people who can afford less and buy less. A copy is worth nothing so buy an original from whatever artist you like and can afford. If you can afford a Banksy unsigned put it on your wall and enjoy it. If you can afford a signed put it on your wall and enjoy it. If you can afford an original buy it put it on your wall and enjoy it. If you can't buy some thing else put it on your wall and enjoy it.
If you just want to make money be careful but you can do it from art just as you can from other things. But art is best placed on the wall to enjoy and not for its traded value. IMO of course
just noticed the ยฃ50 art thread sits below this on threads so there rests he case for the prosecution - I never did but you could have bought a Banksy for that price at one time

Unsigned V Signed Banksy debate, by thisisanton on Aug 10, 2013 1:04:29 GMT 1, It looks like a few unsigned prints are rising just as well as some signed prints. Percentage wise it just seems the signed are jumping more because you're at a higher level but a few unsigned prints are worth looking into. GWB, LIITA, Barcode. An unsigned GWB is going for more than some signed prints. I think price gap between signed and unsigned is likely to tighten over time, there is a limit to what people will pay for the pencil signature. Not everyone has deep pockets. As long as you have that COA from Pest Control you'll be okay. But I could be totally off, that's just my opinion.
