Who are the rising stars in art?, by natstan on Aug 31, 2013 6:12:25 GMT 1, I know there is a thread on artists we may not know here, but I'm keen to find out from the community which artists you think (or wish) would be bigger stars than they are now in the next 3 years. And why?
My own predictions:
Bask- The man gained prominence lately due to his involvement in the Iron Man 3 movie set and his work often displays a distinctive gritty and dark style. Hollywood seems to help a lot - I see his works selling out on 1x run pretty fast after IM came out.
Sandra Chevrier- Her superheroes series (the cage) probably propelled her into the limelight, and her painterly works, juxtaposed by Roy lichtenstein-style imagery,takes on more broader social moral issues which should bode well with both urban and contemporary art fans.
Martin Whatson- 'nuff said. This chap is popular on this forum as I've found out. His style reminds me a little bit of dolk but I feel his images usually have a more aesthetically pleasing draw (short of the recent 2-3 prints). Going by the support he gets and the way his works always sell out in minutes (or seconds), I gather the demand for and prices of his work will appreciate a whole lot more in the coming days ahead.

If I were investing these would be targets for Originals. I dont think sold out prints are any indicator as none of these artists push out much prints as there main output. The originals is what drives that next step from graffiti/urban art galleries to contemporary and musuem shows IMO.

I love all the Muralists work happening right now especially the guys in Poland so I definetly agree with you on that. Yet I think as far as guys moving to the next level the ones I mentioned will make moves. I think there could be a whole another catagory for lower end artists that you can still get in on the ground floor so to say. The hard part is talent only goes so far and the mentality of an artist is something that gets overlooked. It is no coincidence that some artists have risen when equally talented artists have remained scraping the barrel. I think whenever trying to make a guess I look for the intangibles. As far as up and coming artists that are not as established yet as the others I mentioned before. I would guess.

His previous piece from a couple years ago in Blackpool was a stunner, and the new one done this summer is also great in both detail and execution.
Like I said, I may have missed the boat on him and he has been massive for years.. but not really heard much about him vocally..
He really is developing a detailed style of his own..

We have seen it time after time on the forum over the years with an Artist getting boosted up, and loads of people buy their work thinking its a good investment in the belief that they are the next big thing. A year down the line everyone has forgotten about him and they are lucky to sell the work on for cost.
If your really looking for "Star" artists then you need to think about the ones who have been around and producing popular work for at least 5 years.
I think a lot of the Artists that get mentioned on threads like this will never make it really big due to the style of there work not really being suited to what most people want on their walls at home.

- Possessing an influential style and not run of the mill, hereby the possibility of gaining more fans as his or her career progresses
- Prominent feature in huge events or exhibitions (I reside in Asia so I don't get a feel of the scene as well as many of you guys do)
- OGs and limited editions appreciating in value (yes, I'm a collecting bug now and am currently on the lookout for 'worthy' works to keep)
Of course, I am equally keen to know more about artists who don't release prints (yet)...

By 'rising', I suppose we are talking about a few aspects as follows: - Possessing an influential style and not run of the mill, hereby the possibility of gaining more fans as his or her career progresses - Prominent feature in huge events or exhibitions (I reside in Asia so I don't get a feel of the scene as well as many of you guys do) - OGs and limited editions appreciating in value (yes, I'm a collecting bug now and am currently on the lookout for 'worthy' works to keep) Of course, I am equally keen to know more about artists who don't release prints (yet)... quote author="@amboguy" source="/post/1095669/thread" timestamp="1377949938"] Chrisby Maybe I have misread this thread.. So I say one only name: Judith Supine.
And here is a question for you: don't you think that the street art US scene is nowadays much more interesting than the European? Much more energy, creativity, an attention to the political message of art, etc.
Am I wrong?

Considering the story of art, and names who will be remembered, I think that with Keith Haring, Jean-Michel Basquiat and maybe Banksy it will be difficult to find space for other prominent names in the future.
