Who are the rising stars in art?, by .dappy on Aug 31, 2013 22:12:39 GMT 1, have to agree with cg on this one ... you could go down the route of how difficult 'dots' for hirst ... bandanas ... skulls etc ... overuse use of (why always?) black ink for stencils
with just some masking tape, set squares and paint Carl makes some wonderful and different designs. he has progressed from rect on bank notes to complex designs using different formats.

Who are the rising stars in art?, by nrgball on Sept 1, 2013 3:35:44 GMT 1, I think a lot of the Artists that get mentioned on threads like this will never make it really big due to the style of there work not really being suited to what most people want on their walls at home. We have seen it time after time on the forum over the years with an Artist getting boosted up, and loads of people buy their work thinking its a good investment in the belief that they are the next big thing. A year down the line everyone has forgotten about him and they are lucky to sell the work on for cost. If your really looking for "Star" artists then you need to think about the ones who have been around and producing popular work for at least 5 years. Yes very true I had to hold my tongue when someone made a comment on someones Jago For sale thread that they would buy this but the colors didnt match something or other in their house. Artists tell me frustrated stories like this all the time art not matching couches and such. In the end like I always try to tell people without real written discourse on what and where these artists are going in a broader sense were just speculating. There is no true correct answer, Yes of course buy what you like but that could equate to throwing away money if you dont know what you are buying. Why not buy something you like that might have a chance of retaining some value. Banksy is the exception not the rule. I hate to say it but 95% of the artists in our subculture are amazing super talented but have no idea where their work is heading and why. Being able to break that ceiling of urban art so to say involves talent, some luck, and really having a direction in not only aesthetics but concept and theory. I wish collectors like those in this forum would get more educated on what they are buying even if it is something that they like. I will say I am as much in the dark as anyone in here even with a little bit of knowledge, I have no idea really who will make it. I do think I have done my homework and wouldnt feel slighted if I did make an investment and lost. Anyone that buys art I would say is making an investment regardless of they plan to sell or profit in the future. Spending disposable income on something you dont need could be seen as a hobby but I dont think any of you guys are buying Art in the same way you might be buying cars or boats that although you get use depreciate and might hold some value. Most think that there is only up but as Silky says that is not the norm. Ill post this article again as I posted it in the art history thread and is a must read for anyone collecting art. www.artbusiness.com/collectpro.html
I'm pretty sure I made that comment. In reality, I didn't like the color scheme of the piece. It's just isn't my taste. For the record, I do own a very nice Jago canvas and love his work. I think he's going places. I feel he's super underrated and straddles a street art world while his work is and should be in contemporary galleries. It's only a matter of time before he bridges the gap to the next level.

Who are the rising stars in art?, by St. Art Gallery on Sept 1, 2013 22:40:47 GMT 1, Jorge Rodriguez-Gerada is a rising star. He's very talented, multidisciplinary and just makes beautiful art works and street pieces.
His work and technique are unique and he's getting a lot of attention with his art work, murals and landscape art.
Further his original art works are still very affordable with enough room to go up.
Finally he has 2 solo exhibitions coming up in Paris (October 2013) and San Francisco (2014).

I was not aware of his work.
Some of the pieces on google images are very good, a couple leave me cold.
But many of the pieces on his website are beautiful.
I couldnt work out his technique for the pieves on wood panels though.
Most say "Charcoal on 200 year old wall surface transfered on to wood panel.".
Do you know what that means?
Also, for the sake of transparity, is one of the shows that he has coming up at your gallery?

Jorge has developed a technique to remove old layers of plaster from it's original surface and transfer it on to a wooden panel. Subsequently he makes a drawing with charcoal on the plaster and finally applies a coating to protect the drawing. The technique is very complicated and time consuming and it took him about 2 years to perfect the technique.
The technique he uses is really unique and his drawings are very well executed, which in our opinion are the reasons for his growing popularity. Also his large scale art works and his work for charity makes him a popular artist.
Further he's just a very nice and friendly guy.
Our gallery is based in The Netherlands, so the solo shows will be at other galleries.
We mainly exhibit at art fairs and our next art fair is Moniker Art Fair where we will do a solo with Ego Leonard.
All the best from The Netherlands.

Who are the rising stars in art?, by Chrisp on Sept 2, 2013 8:26:58 GMT 1, Seemed a bit of a "what's going to make me money in the next few years". So the reply "buy what you like" and I will add, stick your money in a savings account is what I would do. That's if anyone is looking at this thread for that reason only. Some great pics, keep them coming!

Who are the rising stars in art?, by Wearology on Sept 2, 2013 13:21:40 GMT 1, ICY & SOT are 2 young Iranian brothers living in Brookyn, New York that have excellent stencil skills. They are relentless taggers that enjoy bombing trucks, walls & anything else that doesn't move. Their prices are very affordable and they are very approachable lads.

Who are the rising stars in art?, by Neate Michael on Sept 2, 2013 14:12:07 GMT 1, According to Beejoir, there is one new artist, whose art he has been buying lots of, in the same way he bought lots of work by Banksy way back when it was cheap and available.
And that artist is Bon. Not that he and Banksy are in any way similar. But that young man has lots of skills, both on the street and on canvas. And his art is still stupidly cheap. Look at the originals (below) going on SOS on Weds. ยฃ225 for a beautiful original. I dare say they will be snapped up rather quickly.
After that a few Bon canvasses will be at the SOS groupshow, and then Bon has his first solo show in Bangkok early next year. Most of which is already sold out...
This time next year, his small originals will be going for more than ยฃ225!

Who are the rising stars in art?, by Happy Shopper on Sept 4, 2013 11:58:10 GMT 1, There's a few artists I think should be bigger than they are... whether they're rising stars is another matter!
Pure Evil... there, I said it! Great work over the last few years and a big part of this scene. (My only issue is the slightly dated look of stencil art. For me it's started to look old... "So 2004, baby"! Luckily it's not all he does.)
Miss Van: Unique style; mixes with the best; but some bad choices for prints and slightly high priced originals IMO. Could do better.
Ian Stevenson: Released prints with POW; had a great show with Lazarides last year; done stuff with TATE; you can buy small originals for ยฃ50 or a large canvas for ยฃ400 FFS ! www.ianstevenson.co.uk/index.php/master/shop/ (Disclosure: I just bought a canvas ! )

Who are the rising stars in art?, by Wearology on Sept 4, 2013 12:19:04 GMT 1, I thought Grafter was going to go the next level. He is a very talented artist and I really enjoy his videos of how his artwork is made, but IMO his earlier work is so much stronger than his most recent offerings.
Cranio has arrived but his pieces are still affordable for the average collector.
Pahnl is way way way underrated. His photo / stencil collaborations are unique and ground breaking while he is open to doing comissions and his prices are very affordable.
There's an artist you may not know but he is extremely talented and is also a DJ. His name is Slingshot London and he is absolutely incredible. He did the windows of Harvey Nichol's a few years back and also a collab piece with Commes de Carcon.

Who are the rising stars in art?, by stvro22 on Sept 4, 2013 15:19:55 GMT 1, The rising stars with true staying power will not be the stencil artists IMO. Nor will it be the ones who rely heavily on pop culture imagery that is already iconic.
The rising stars in the street art world will be the ones who create the images that become apart of pop culture. The ones who don't look at what's worked in the past and try to emulate it but rather start new styles and techniques.
I'm not saying they have to be completely original. We all know that's impossible, but they will use the past to draw bits and pieces in just the right amounts from others and with their own style make work that will be remembered.
I believe those artists do exist on this forum. Only time will tell.

Wasn't he doing an MA or something. It would be good to get an update, a mate of mine has a cracking Diaz piece.
