Artist made vs. Shop Made, by stvro22 on Sept 25, 2013 1:23:00 GMT 1, Does anyone care that some prints are made by the artist themselves as opposed to having them made by someone else in a print shop? I'm pretty much referring to screenprints.
I know some artists are not screenprinters but even so do you think they should add something of a personal touch to their prints? Or is it all about the image for you so who makes it doesn't matter?

Artist made vs. Shop Made, by alittle on Sept 25, 2013 2:55:19 GMT 1, I very much prefer screenprints done by their own hand, rather than a print shop. I love the imperfect nature of them.

Artist made vs. Shop Made, by stvro22 on Sept 25, 2013 14:18:24 GMT 1, I'll pay more for a handmade print. The best POW prints had some handmade touches to them.

Artist made vs. Shop Made, by Mark Perronet on Sept 25, 2013 16:49:53 GMT 1, Not sure what you mean by 'handmade'..nearly all screenprints are made 'by hand' in that the beds are not automatic. Even with a semi automatic bed it only moves the frame up and down the squeegee motion is still done by hand. Certainly the screenbeds at Jealous are manual with I think one semi automatic and their quality is superb, and registration etc spot on. If you bought a print by Eine ( few years ago) or Ryan Callanan or Ben Allen the chances were it was printed by them and would be technically very good. If they were too busy, they would have given it to someone else to print, and then the signing of it proves that they were happy with how it ended up. It makes no difference who actually puts the paper under the screen or who pulls the squeegee.

Artist made vs. Shop Made, by randomname on Sept 25, 2013 20:11:19 GMT 1, He probably meant hand embellished.
Personally, it doesn't matter much to me who screened it. I have Faile prints from Paper Monster and from their shop. The quality it basically identical. Even when you get it from the shop, chances are it was done by an intern.

Artist made vs. Shop Made, by stvro22 on Sept 25, 2013 20:26:51 GMT 1, Yes I'm talking about hand embellishments as opposed to just straight hand pulled screen prints. Some artists really work each print by hand whereas others just keep it simple and straight forward.
For me it comes down to the image first of course but when I see variations and hand embellishments it just make the print that much better. Each one becomes slightly different.
