What's not on the walls..., by Hubble Bubble on Nov 8, 2013 18:59:44 GMT 1, Finally got around to going through the folio, opening stuff I've never opened etc and, whilst I'm sure I'm a novice compared to many of you, I couldn't believe what I have just lying around waiting for a place on the wall. Unbelievable. I have a seriously bad habit and a few of you are to blame.
You know who you are.
Mrs HB is coming to get you.

What's not on the walls..., by Dungle on Nov 8, 2013 19:05:00 GMT 1, Whilst we all have things stored away, how can you have things that you've never opened?! When art arrives for me, opening it is one of the most enjoyable parts!

What's not on the walls..., by dave5150 on Nov 8, 2013 19:24:26 GMT 1, Gary (MFM) has got my folio at the moment and I'm trying to work through that before buying anything else... Although I do seem to send at least one tube back to him with every delivery...

I've done that in the past , bought stuff and never opened the tube ! Once When I did found I was missing a print , as I bought multiple prints sent in one tube , luckily I bought from a printhouse and they sent me the print 4 months later. Also need to check for damage , a lot end up with end damage! 45 days only to appeal through PayPal if anything goes wrong.

I totally agree. In the early days I loved opening stuff. But it's become such a 'habit' that that joy is lesser now.
It's a shame. But today made me realise a few things.
Peace and Love.

What's not on the walls..., by Max Beales on Nov 9, 2013 10:08:34 GMT 1, (off topic.. great av/profile pic HB!)
on topic.. I have a Peter Blake art car boot print that was a gift from a few years ago that i've never gotten round to framing, I want to do it justice in a nice frame but never have the money when i get round to it.

Not having a go in any way but seems curious to me, prints always look so much better in the flesh

What's not on the walls..., by Deleted on Nov 9, 2013 12:20:59 GMT 1, I've always gotta open the tube - it's part of the fun!
I guess I want to check that it's ok and not damaged and I don't like leaving stuff in tubes anyway.

What's not on the walls..., by Gard on Nov 10, 2013 18:27:43 GMT 1, Why do you got 400 in storage?!? That's madness. Wouldn't it be much more fun to sell them all and buy some nice originals?

What's not on the walls..., by Gard on Nov 10, 2013 20:47:09 GMT 1, Yeah we get it artmanic1234 you don't have to shout it three times
What I have discovered lately is that people easily buy 10 prints 200 pounds each, but to buy one canvas for 2000 is much harder. What do you guys prefer 1 canvas or 10 prints?

Couldn't agree more. When are you ever going to be able to display 400 pieces! originals all the way. I think I had about 30-40 prints at one time, it's a great way to really discover what you like. But today I have sold most of it and I try to only buy hand painted pieces. There's still some prints I just need to have, not sure if I'm going to frame them and display them, but I really want to just own it. I think it's the collector side of me kicking in

What do you guys prefer 1 canvas or 10 prints? โฆof course I'm sure most would much rather a unique piece over a canvas in an ideal world, the main factor here is the simple fact that one costs ยฃ200 and one ยฃ2000. While its great to theorise about the 'progression' from prints to originals, it's a much more achievable transition for some than others.
From a personal perspective, a print is the nearest I'll get to owning something from the artists I follow, I couldn't afford an original. I've massively streamlined my collection in the last year or so, trading up a large amount of lesser pieces for some fantastic prints, but the gulf between those and an original piece from those artists is still vast.

What's not on the walls..., by Gard on Nov 10, 2013 22:13:49 GMT 1, I know that there's a huge difference between 200 and 2000, but I believe there's a lot of members here that have prints for way more than 2k hidden under their bed and still continues to buy prints. They could sell some of their collection and buy a canvas instead.
