What to see/do in San Francisco?, by Agent Provocateur on Dec 6, 2013 19:54:40 GMT 1, In my humble opinion if you are going to San Francisco forget art and just enjoy what I think is one of the nicest cities in the world! Well jealous! Totally agree, top city, need to get back there soon.
I'll defer to nipper on the beer front, and agree about wandering along the piers, but beware of the bush man he caught me big style (don't google him, just see if you're caught, hilarious)! There's brew pubs and great seafood restaurants down there plus the view.
When I went I saved up all my rubbles and managed to book the cheapest helicopter flight over the city (never done one before and haven't since), luckily the only other people that booked that day wanted the most expensive. So I got roped into a full flight around the headland, back into the bay, the Golden Gate Bridge, Alcatraz and the city opening up before me under a clear blue cloudless sky. Unf*ckingbelievable!
There's more tales on that flight but I won't bore everyone, suffice to say if you can afford one I'd highly recommend!

What to see/do in San Francisco?, by otomi on Dec 6, 2013 21:30:59 GMT 1, I also only live a few blocks away. You do want to watch out a bit. Oakland has some very bad parts and muggins happening all the time. Fair point, but muggings happen everywhere (even Shoreditch, dare I suggest it) and there is a lot more of the world to see if you don't start by assuming it's scary. And while I'm at it, SF has a pretty high crime rate in some areas as well. Muggins happen everywhere but how many you have makes a difference. I'm from Europe living in Oakland the level of crime is at a whole different level. I think it is warranted to let someone, who is not familiar with the area, know that it is ahigh crime area. I'm sure muggins in Shoreditch involve much less guns. The police tells women to cover their gold chains and people shouldn't have their smartphones out ... I'm not overly afraid I'm just aware and don't want an visitor to lose his stuff.

What to see/do in San Francisco?, by pcant on Dec 7, 2013 0:11:23 GMT 1, Otomi: True, Oakland's crime is higher (and much more gun-happy) than London, but so is the crime in SF in comparison. I guess that would be my point. There's this perception that SF is this shining city of light and magic and Oakland is like Detroit on steroids. I would argue that neither one is true and if you look at the figures, both cities have very dangerous areas where you should be careful. In fact, White Walls and Shooting Gallery are in the Tenderloin in SF, which is a pretty rough neighborhood.
