What to see when in the US (SF - LA - LV -NY)?, by Gard on Dec 6, 2013 9:28:07 GMT 1, Yeah I know there's a SF thread already but would love to get some inputs on what to see and do when in these 4 cities. I'm landing in SF December 23rd and from there I'm driving down to LA and then LV and then take a flight to NY January 3rd.
So what art related should i do along the way? I appreciate other tips for food and activities too
As some of you know I recently opened a gallery in Norway, and we're looking for artists to bring over here. So if anyone know someone that may be interested i doing a show in Norway, or one who can take me on studio visits in any of these towns I would really appreciate it.

What to see when in the US (SF - LA - LV -NY)?, by Quinnster on Dec 6, 2013 15:05:02 GMT 1, In Vagas go to the roof top bar at the top of Palms casino it was the Voodo lounge when I went there. Superb view of the strip and night.
If you can stay at the Mandalay bay they have a superb pool area (we were in the Luxor and bribed our way in a few times)

What to see when in the US (SF - LA - LV -NY)?, by kainers on Dec 6, 2013 15:25:05 GMT 1, I live in Las Vegas, if you have any questions feel free to PM me. I live in the "Arts district" but tbh I do not know much about the artists in the area. I've seen mention here and there(besides locally) about a couple of them but very rarely.

What freaked me out more was the lady who operated the lift to the top she was about 80 and must have been working when the Rat Pack were in town.

What to see when in the US (SF - LA - LV -NY)?, by randomname on Dec 6, 2013 19:55:13 GMT 1, When in Vegas, go to a Cirque du Sole show. More than one if you can. Even if you've seen a Cirque show, it's not on the same scale as Vegas. They'e easily the best thing you can do in Vegas in my opinion.
If you want to go to clubs, there are a ton of them. If you're going with a group, I would recommend getting a table and bottle service and splitting it. It's expensive, but at least you won't spend your night waiting in line. The other alternative is going to the front and bribing the bouncer. For that, you're looking at $50 to cut in line. Then you still have to pay cover, usually another $50. If you're going with girls, you can generally cut in if your have a 2 to 1 ratio. Girls have to be reasonable cute. They'll get in free, you'll have to pay cover.
Personally, I got tired of the clubs. I lived there for four years. I prefer the downtown / Freemont street area. There are some cool bars down there like the Griffin and Beauty Bar. Beauty Bar is an old 1950s beauty salon converted into a bar. They have breakdancing on the back patio.
There was a big art show there a couple months ago. I believe D*Face, Ben Eine and a few others painted murals around downtown. Not sure of the exact locations.
If you rent a car, Red Rock National Park is worth an afternoon. Most people don't realize Vegas is surrounded by mountains. Hard to see them through the casinos. But there's some nice scenery and hiking if you get a little ways out of town. There's even shitty skiing 30 minutes away at Mt. Charleston.

The sad part is she was probably only 25, a degenerate gambler and a chain smoker. Vegas does that to people.

What to see when in the US (SF - LA - LV -NY)?, by maxf on Dec 6, 2013 21:36:12 GMT 1, In Vegas we went to a club on the outskirts - no tourists. I think it was the Artesian or something. It felt like it was in an old hotel. The patio out the back was epic - met some awesome people and saw a full on breakdance-off.
Ghost Bar is worth a look - amazing views - probably the best I've seen in a city.
