Me Art Monday, by Wearology on Feb 10, 2015 0:11:01 GMT 1, The kids were in the Garage tonight, starting a canvas for their Nans birthday! A colourful background was the choice of Scarlett. She had a watchful eye over her older brother! He asked if he could take some cans out with him!! So I guess i'll have to keep them locked away!!
Shouldn't the young lad be wearing rubber gloves & eye protection to go along with his safety mask.

There's glove there, but they don't wear them anymore. They've been doing it for quite a while now and can both control the cans without spraying it over themselves! They don't even put their 'old' clothing on anymore. Eye protection? No. Never have. TBH, I've never seen any Graf artist with goggles on either. Not saying that's why they don't, but the paint is generally propelled away from the user.

That's an original. I wondered why Q scaffolding had erected a hoarding outside my garage!

Me Art Monday, by Wilson on Apr 11, 2015 18:31:48 GMT 1, Well I read this and thought I'd have a go. Turned off Sky Sports, escaped to my office and made my first attempt at stencilling.
Anyway, it turned out ok. Ish. Move over Lewis Bannister:-)

Me Art Monday, by Wilson on Apr 12, 2015 11:34:48 GMT 1, Perhaps one the artists out there could answer this.
If you spray on paper and once it's dry spray another colour it soaks in or goes blobby. I admit I was using normal auto paints.
Does this not happen with water based sprays?

Or if the paper is to thin this could also cause it. Good paints to use are Beloton, MTN, Montana. They should be cheaper than auto paints as well.
good luck!

Paper absorbs paint and it expands.
Do you mean the paper buckles or the paint blobs?
With auto paints, the second layer softens the first layer.
The solution is to use some heavy 300lb paper or card. Or use acrylic paint.
I use the artist acrylics which come in tubes like liquitex etc mixed with water and use a heavy duty airbrush.
Plus they are safe for home use.
It saves on paint costs too and the air pressure can be regulated.
Airbrush compressors are easy enough to come by often secondhand and also small garage style compressors are cheap enough from diy stores.
Water based acrylics if left to dry overnight usually don't soften when a second layer is sprayed over them.

Thanks Ploppi. I think I must have used too thin paper and the wrong paints and didn't wait long enough either between coats. Besides that everything was perfect :-) School boy errors :-)

Thin paper can make problems.
It depends on what you want to do pantwise.
I think it's Worth investing in some basic spray equipment , a heavy duty airbrush or small touch up spraygun as it saves money in the long run by not having to buy cans plus one can experiment with different paints and inks including the acrylic household paints etc as well as gouache which is great for stencils fine art wise.

Wilson, another common mistake is applying the spray paint too thickly. A lighter spray from a slightly larger distance might help. And try spraying with a sweeping motion, if you aren't already. And most importantly, keep at it!!

I got some 8" x 10" canvases from Poundland (don't start people) and will get some MTN sprays and have another go. I told my wife that I was considering chucking in my business and becoming an artist... she looked worried. :-)

I havent tried plain white wallpaper yet but think it might be perfect for heavy spray and it's cheap enough.

When I spray direct onto paper I like the effect when the paper distorts and buckles.
It shows life.
