George Morton-Clarke: The Devils Cabinet @ Imitate Modern, by Agent Provocateur on Feb 20, 2014 18:21:05 GMT 1, I managed to nip in to a small soiree at the show last night and these were the two stand out pieces for me, the texture and colours were great.
'Fraid I can't comment about the prices as haven't got a clue where they've come from and what they are at the show. But I've met George a few times, and had a quick chat with him and his Mrs last night, and like the thought processes behind what he paints.
If anyone's going tonight make sure you read the quotes on the walls, they range from serious arty speak (long complicated sentences with convoluted words) to quite sensible, simple and apt comments about his view on society. My favourite went something like 'I play the music but can't predict how you feel about it'.

George Morton-Clarke: The Devils Cabinet @ Imitate Modern, by 11 on Feb 20, 2014 19:41:53 GMT 1, From the moment i first saw GMC i have loved his work and was only recently wondering what had happened to him as I haven't seen or heard of him for ages.
This body of work is fantastic - classic GMC mixed with lots of different styles and techniques, clearly experimenting and pushing boundaries - not so keen on the face studies - can't help thinking micallef whenever i see anything like that but love just about everything else
I'm with you Ottomatik - maybe I've had my head in the sand but haven't seen anything that would warrant such a hike, especially the prints - @ ยฃ390 ish for a Giclee I would have expected hand-finishing etc - not another ยฃ300 on top for that
This isn't just GMC - I've seen significant hikes across the board - the recent Ludo show was another (although to be fair he still sold-out - and maybe this will too) the pricing for the OsG print as well - what is driving the market - at this rate I'm going to have to start flipping

For me it is as exciting as NYC was in the early 80's. I'm sure collectors are being pointed in this direction.

George Morton-Clarke: The Devils Cabinet @ Imitate Modern, by entropy on Feb 20, 2014 22:24:42 GMT 1, Thank you for posting these images! I really hope more pictures or videos come out. I'd love to see what the two "Selfie" paintings look like in a gallery setting.
I've been a fan of George's for years. I think his work is brilliant. And so unpredictable. I know he travels the world and is influenced by a number of things, so that's probably a part of it. Anyway, I've been fortunate to acquire three of his paintings dating from 2010 to last year. And honestly, I thought I'd get one more! But it appears his work is no longer within my reach. I wish him the best and hope this show sells well.
My favorites from this show are: The Art of Taking a Selfie Selfie Art Me Evenings Alone Again and Again
The giclee prints though... I don't understand the price hike there. You'd think he'd throw us a bone and have something accessible for members of the 99%. Even the remaining "Holi" print at Red Propeller Gallery received a price hike of a couple hundred pounds. West London Art Factory more than doubled the price of George Morton-Clark's "Shine Like A Guitar". The last remaining "affordable" thing I see out there is the Basquiat portrait in the West London Art Factory, "1988". It's still listed at ยฃ150.00.

George Morton-Clarke: The Devils Cabinet @ Imitate Modern, by Deleted on Feb 20, 2014 23:55:07 GMT 1, Way too much of this show feels like a Micallef pastiche
I call bs on the ludo sell out claim,
(the 3 Geddes ogs that were for sale only 1 is actually sold to give an example ...)
