I would imagine with the right management the guy could probably spin this all massively in his favor.
Great story indeed.

Best line of the piece was when he answered the question if he thought he had done something wrong. Guy is a piece of work!

The most successful art forger in history, by randomname on Feb 27, 2014 7:47:01 GMT 1, I'd be surprised if he isn't already selling his work for at least $20,000 - $30,000. Even so, he'd have to be pretty prolific to pull together enough to pay off those lawsuits.

The most successful art forger in history, by Deleted on Feb 27, 2014 11:42:47 GMT 1, I'd take what Beltracchi says with a pinch of salt.
the wrong white my arse. Titanium white was available in tubes in 1921 and Ernst was painting in 1940.
Lead white which was used before 1900 is still available in some places and there are many ways to fool the scientific testing.
The best art forgers don't get caught and Beltracchi's efforts are so bad i'm amazed they fooled anyone.
His Franz Marc painting is not good and easily spotted as a fake but the big problem is that art experts are not always honest or have integrity.
The other problem is that the bods employed by the major auction houses know nothing about art.
There is a lot of corruption and stories of authenticators who take a percentage or a large payment to give the nod of approval and even one auhenticator who would give a certificate in exchange for heroin cos he was an addict.
I don't blame Beltracchi for saying what he said in the interview as he could bring down a lot of people if he wanted to.

The most successful art forger in history, by stvro22 on Feb 27, 2014 14:45:00 GMT 1, Great stuff. Smart guy to not try and make a painting that existed already. Instead he tried to get into the mind of the artist he was emulating. Sort of like a lot of artists in the street art scene do;)

The most successful art forger in history, by randomname on Feb 28, 2014 19:35:14 GMT 1, Just for fun, I wrote him to see if he has anything for sale...
Thanks a lot for your mail. I am a bit overloaded by requests at the moment. There are inquiries from galleries in the U.S., but I did currently no contracts, until then I'm selling directly.
Please patient with me, I will take care of your question and send photos as soon as possible.
Best regards,
Wolfgang Beltracchi

The most successful art forger in history, by randomname on Apr 8, 2014 22:26:32 GMT 1, Just got a PDF of his works for sale.
The cheapest thing on there is a $1,500 ink jet print.
The most expensive is a $55,000 canvas.
Lots of other stupid s**t priced in between.
