If you had £2k..., by jayTown on Mar 5, 2014 16:31:11 GMT 1, If you had £2k give or take to invest in a piece of art what would it be? Thinking about this at the moment so would quite like some inspiration. Main things are a) like the piece b) think it's a good investment.
Thoughts at the moment are...Banksy unsigned Weston Super Mare or Dolk Girl with Teddy bear.

If you had £2k..., by sakyamuni on Mar 5, 2014 16:44:32 GMT 1, I am not too sure that spending 2K on a dolk print is a great investment, although I might be wrong as I am not following him for years now... My advise would be an original by a less famous artist you like: if he/she becomes a star, you'll make a fortune out of it someday, and if it doesn't happen, as you like it a lot, it's not a bad move anyway... You can get a lot of great art for 2K, including many artists often mentioned here...

If you had £2k..., by Poster Bob on Mar 5, 2014 17:10:06 GMT 1, I wouldn't spend 2k on a dolk print. I can't see the best of his prints ever fetching much more than that. Banksywise, with 2k I would try to buy two silver flags and sit on them for 6 months to a year. Although we all know that in 6 months people on this forum will not offer more than what the print was worth in Aug of 2013.

If you had £2k..., by Dellboyy on Mar 5, 2014 17:18:07 GMT 1, Oh, and i'd probably buy one of the older Faile prints... that's assuming i could get one for £2k, and i actually had wall space for one
Maybe wouldn't be good for investment of course.

If you had £2k..., by Art Fan 2011 on Mar 5, 2014 17:40:14 GMT 1, Not sure id want to put 2k into art as a "good" investment, plenty of other options, but seeing as you ask, id also get a Banksy Rat, iconic image that surely in years to come will be even more sought after than they are now. Or possibly consider an original from someone like Martin Whatson!

If you had £2k..., by LAZAKY on Mar 5, 2014 17:44:45 GMT 1, If it's just about investment you should try to buy original piece from another artist! Like artfan said a Watson could be pretty good or a massive Rae, depending of your taste! If I'm right you could buy a big and nice pro176 for that price and it definitely worth it! You could count on this guy if you want to make money in the near years!

If you had £2k..., by kimble on Mar 5, 2014 18:15:31 GMT 1, Buy a piece from an artist not mentioned on this forum yet. Forum tax is high and artists go out of fashion quickly here. Try overseas. Long term or short term investment? Banksy is safer money but prints spiked so maybe not much movement left for a while, who knows.

If you had £2k..., by Nick on Mar 5, 2014 18:34:57 GMT 1, Or you could read about artists here, pick up as many as you can at initial print releases, regardless if you like them or not, and put them straight on ebay. You could double your money in 12months easy.
Joke.

If you had £2k..., by Deleted on Mar 5, 2014 18:49:06 GMT 1, Look at the housing market, look at classic car prices , look at art prices....theres something going on here and its not going to be nice when we see a correction - that Dolk will be bog paper in the not too distant future and Im sure that the WSM will come down to manageable levels - its a big old edition - hold your nerve, spunk the cash on a 3 month jaunt to Laos & Cambodia and a return trip on the trans-siberian with a case of mekong whiskey and a key of cambodian red for company - by the time you get yourself sorted out and back on your feet again in the UK, you may well find that things are more affordable

If you had £2k..., by Hairbland on Mar 5, 2014 19:12:58 GMT 1, Key word in opening post is "invest" as opposed to buying something you have desired over the years. Much of my KAWS stuff has risen dramatically, an average of 50% to 300% over the last 3 years so wise investments at the time (and I dig 'em). I have other artists that have risen in a similar fashion.
Kevin Cyr would be a good example, you could buy his stuff for $200 or less 5 years ago, he now has a Jonathan Levine show with $15,000 paintings.
I'd probably do a sh*tload of research, and buy 4 artists at $500 each if I was investing.
If based on personal I'd buy a RAE painting as I like his work and there seems to be a vision, it could go up but I like it so if it didn't I'd be ok with that. But it would seem that with his gallery in Brooklyn and the Bodega project he must be hitting the radar.
