Plastic Jesus, by Deleted on Mar 16, 2014 0:58:54 GMT 1, Just picked up a "No More Heroes" print. Really love the image. I couldn't find much discussion on the forum about the artist. Just curious if there are any other fans on here?

His Oscar statue was fantastic that he snuck right by the actual Oscar event on Hollywood Blvd.

Plastic Jesus, by saint on Mar 16, 2014 8:39:24 GMT 1, Never heard of the guy before.
Quick look on his website, anyone know why the majority of his pieces have been painted on the same wall over and over again? Seems odd...

More importantly glad you've got something you love.

Plastic Jesus, by Deleted on Mar 16, 2014 21:23:25 GMT 1, Looks alright.
I'm always slightly amused/bemused when any new stencil artist just gets dismissed as a Banksy wannabe. Last time I liked there were plenty of stencil artists and it's not just all about one artist.

Plastic Jesus, by Deleted on Mar 16, 2014 21:45:44 GMT 1, as much as I love Banksy, I started liking street art before I'd ever heard his name... Some locals were doing stencil work back in the late 90's that I really enjoyed. If the same artist just started out now, he'd be dismissed as "Banksy-esque".
Yes, this piece is very similar to Banksy, but I enjoy it on it's own merit

Blood doping
unfortunately it's an idea that should've been left as a draft on Photoshop, as you correctly point out it doesn't actually 'work'.
I actually don't think it's reminiscent of banksy at all.

True, street art that offends should really be frowned upon, especially when celebrities are involved.

Oh yes I totally agree, nothing remotely controversial should ever be produced. Maybe a board of censors is what we need to check if it's acceptable to bring something out as, let's face it, celebrities and their families should be treated differently to the rest of us.

While i agree that street art shouldn't be afraid to shock... The death of a friend by overdose, celebrity or not, is a personally tragedy. Pretty sure the artist wouldn't be making similar statements outside the houses of other overdose victims.

True but then I'm sure there would be waaaaay more Christians that would be deeply offended by Banksy's image of Jesus with the shopping bags (who after all died for all of them) but I haven't heard anyone complaining about that.

An attack on religion is a little less personal though... plus Jesus wasn't crusified a month ago... and Banksy didn't release the print in front of his empty tomb hehe

Christians have no right to be offended by anything. They give up that right by deeply offending millions of atheists everyday with their delusions.

Plastic Jesus, by Carrie on Mar 17, 2014 11:56:41 GMT 1, 2 Questions: Do you think he had permission from Trek to use their branding on his print? and secondly, with this in mind, what is the deal with branding in art? When Pop Art first started out, were there a lot of issues on copyrights etc. I am just intrigued as branding is more or less an integral aspect of Pop Art and a major one of Urban Art too.

Trek and Credit Lyonnais have both been shown in the print. I doubt that either would be happy about it!

I think it's the same with photos used in art... if you can prove that you're using it to make a statement, and changing it in some way, it's fair use.

Plastic Jesus, by frankthetank on Jun 23, 2014 15:03:09 GMT 1, I am a fan of Plastic Jesus. I'm relatively new to street art in general so don't have a competent opinion but I like his stunts (stop making stupid people famous, useless plastic box in particular). He seems to have that sense of humour that I find lacking in a lot of graffiti art I see. I think that makes him stand out IMHO.

Plastic Jesus, by Hairbland on Jun 23, 2014 15:18:04 GMT 1, Please can someone tell me what this image is about?. Blood doping unfortunately it's an idea that should've been left as a draft on Photoshop, as you correctly point out it doesn't actually 'work'. I actually don't think it's reminiscent of banksy at all.ย
It's too obvious for me and I've never been a fan of the obvious. I think if you go by the moniker Plastic Jesus you have to reach a big higher.
As to any issues with PSH, celebrities are ripe for skewering.

Plastic Jesus, by Deleted on Jun 23, 2014 15:46:16 GMT 1, as much as I love Banksy, I started liking street art before I'd ever heard his name... Some locals were doing stencil work back in the late 90's that I really enjoyed. If the same artist just started out now, he'd be dismissed as "Banksy-esque". Yes, this piece is very similar to Banksy, but I enjoy it on it's own merit Banksy is probably the most well known stencil artist making quick basic stencil pictures but far from the originator of the style.
A stencil is a stencil basically and similar looking stencils have been used in France since people have had access to spray cans from 1941 and they had access to spray guns and compressors way before then too.
A lot of quick easy decorative sign writing has been made in France outside bistros, restuarants, bars and shops by owners or local artists as a quick and cheap way of illustrating their wares on the walls and their services.
If anyone bothers looking they can find lots in France which is done with stencils and been around for ages.
I'm sure it's what influenced Blek le Rat who was doing stencils way before Banksy rattled a bombe.

Plastic Jesus, by nacional on Jun 23, 2014 16:02:22 GMT 1, No More Heroes is dreadful rubbish...but to answer a far more interesting questions regarding why this guy paints on same bit of wall...once a graff artist paints on a "virgin" wall space it is considered his. Another artist painting over images or adding to images is considered bad form..hence the (albiet totally rigged) spat/ pissing contest between Robbo and Banksy a while ago...I am no expert and the only stencil experience I have is doing the Crass logo on walls in my hone town when I was 15...but I was told this by a young Chilean dude who now lives and paints in Latvia (http://izakone.blogspot.com/) if you are interested...

These guys were doing 'Stencils' over 9000 years ago. They would chew up some sort of pigment with water/spit and then spray it from their mouth using their hand as a sort of stencil...
