good guy - mmmike, by Deleted on Apr 2, 2014 13:01:08 GMT 1, Not sure the best place to post this, but just wanted to say thanks to mmmike. He sold me a Banksy Soup Can poster and donated every penny (and then some) of the sale to Amnesty International. Great guy and great cause!

good guy - mmmike, by mmmike on Apr 2, 2014 21:59:32 GMT 1, Thanks you are too kind. In truth It took me a while to get around to pulling out the poster and shipping it off. federationofideas was a patient buyer.
I am, as I imagine all of you on here are, very fortunate that to reduce my guilt from buying so many non essential things (art, bikes, etc.) I'm trying to donate the proceeds when I sell art. That way I feel like I'm getting the enjoyment out of the art while I have it and at the same time not consuming away the money totally. If that makes sense.
Seems like there are a lot of people here that are supporting worthwhile charities. That is great but I think we can all do better. Sometimes it is easy to forget how lucky we are and how easy it is to have a huge impact.

good guy - mmmike, by Deleted on Apr 2, 2014 22:38:31 GMT 1, Thanks again mmmike! I just posted the high school yearbook photo of "Banksy" on ebay (I posted about it on here a few weeks ago), and I'd like to reciprocate to your goodness by donating a portion of the sale - 50% after my cost (if it sells!) to charity. Any suggestions as to which charity? Stick with Amnesty International? Or ASPCA? Animal rescue is an issue close to my heart

good guy - mmmike, by mmmike on Apr 3, 2014 3:19:55 GMT 1, Check out the video I posted. Singer gives good info on selecting charities. I really like give well's recommendations. I'd suggest supporting one of them.
I've read some bad stuff about WWF and I'm not talking about the Hulk. I'm an animal guy (vegan etc.) but I wouldn't give to them.
Controversial but good, PETA is one that I fully support. They are a very effective org. that is focused on helping animals nothing else.

good guy - mmmike, by jim on Apr 3, 2014 4:47:44 GMT 1, how about sea shephard? www.seashepherd.org.au/ i think they do a fantastic job. Fair enough point with WWF, but i think PETA is probably in the same boat - they've been accused of killing animals etc because it costs too much to look after them, which i admit depends on your viewpoint of what is humane and what isn't. Perhaps it's the pervasiveness that creeps in when an organisation becomes so big that it looses sight of it's core values...

Perhaps it's the pervasiveness that creeps in when an organisation becomes so big that it looses sight of it's core values... I like the work the Sea Shepard does. One of my all time favourite quotes is from the captain Paul Watson
"If you want to know where you would have stood on slavery before the Civil War, donโt look at where you stand on slavery today. Look at where you stand on animal rights."
As for PETA they don't kill animals they are opposed to no kill shelters for practical reasons. In a perfect world they would be opposed to killing but there aren't the resources to care of all the animals. Here is their position on no kill www.peta.org/about-peta/why-peta/no-kill-shelters/
