Nathan Bowen - original art proceeds to Stephen Sutton, by Deleted on Apr 28, 2014 11:32:36 GMT 1, I think any artist that places their work on the streets expects it to be snapped up, comes with the territory. Its naive to think otherwise. I've had this for almost 2 years and enjoyed it. I'd tend to agree with your sentiments if I'd picked it up last night, but thats not the case.
Thanks.

Nathan Bowen - original art proceeds to Stephen Sutton, by Coach on Apr 28, 2014 12:29:51 GMT 1, My personal opinion (and it's just that) is that if a piece is left propped up against a wall (like Neate used to do) it's a drop for people to take if they want it. If it's fastened down, the artists intention is that it should stay on the street for as long as possible for as many people to enjoy as possible. For that reason I wouldn't take something off the street that's been attached in any way. My son did a canvas drop at upfest. We watched and it was snapped up by a couple within about three minutes!! I hope they are still enjoying it!!

No problem. Thanks for stealing a piece of street art I may have seen while mooching around Brighton and offering it to us for sale.
I'm sure your sale thread is far more justified than my negative comments.

Nathan Bowen - original art proceeds to Stephen Sutton, by Deleted on Apr 28, 2014 12:52:26 GMT 1, Thanks 'coach' for your opinion, that's interesting. Perhaps I should have left it where it was but at the time I had bought several canvases from Nathan, five in fact, and so I'm sure you could image my enthusiasm when I saw this on the street. I still have all five canvases framed on my wall, happy to post images. So, I don't think I could be accused of not supporting the artist in anyway. I've placed work out on the streets before, actually glued to the wall, they were quickly taken. I was somewhat disappointed to begin with at first but then thought what did I really expect would happen to them. I also took some comfort in the fact that someone liked my work so much that they wanted to own it, all be it for free. Its an interesting topic, I'd be interested to know what other peoples 'opinions' on the subject are, if they are able to articulate those opinions in a balanced and respectable way. Thansk again.

Nathan Bowen - original art proceeds to Stephen Sutton, by saint on Apr 28, 2014 12:58:46 GMT 1, I agree with Coach in the main on this issue.
But in this case, Nathan has signed it on the back, and stuck it up so it can be removed. If he didn't want it removed he wouldn't have signed it, nor would he have stuck it up in such an easy place to take, or made it so esy.
At the end of the day its a vinyl record and is in my opinion a drop rather than a piece he expected to last for ever. He does a lot of work all over the place so he knows the score.

Nathan Bowen - original art proceeds to Stephen Sutton, by Deleted on Apr 28, 2014 13:10:35 GMT 1, @csideguy - just put another vynil with a pasteup of the same image on the sign so that people can still enjoy the art... and do whatever with your original vinyl - end of discussion.
This said, if it is in the street, it is then in a free world... break it, cover it, pee on it, who cares. You had balls to remove the piece, well done !
Anyway, if it weren't you, it would have been somebody else (is this correct English)

Actually that's a really good point and one I hadn't thought of.

Nathan Bowen - original art proceeds to Stephen Sutton, by Deleted on Apr 28, 2014 15:34:51 GMT 1, So... I've decided to sell this on ebay with all proceeds from the sale going to Stephen Sutton's Justgiving page in aid of the Teenage Cancer Trust charity. The money will be donated anonymously but will include the amount and a short note mentioning this forum.

That is a great gesture. Respect. I hope that you don't mind that your thread went off topic, on to a discussion regarding taking art from the streets. It was interesting, but didn't help your sale much! You mentioned your own canvases. Fancy sharing your work?
