What else do you collect?, by yoyosh on Sept 19, 2016 17:47:57 GMT 1, I collected sneakers for a long time in the 2000s (mostly Nike Dunks) but have been slowly selling off my collection (sz 12 if anyone is interested!) Now other than art I do enjoy collecting vinyl records, but only things that I plan on listening to instead of records to keep in their vinyl sleeves to look at

What else do you collect?, by Schrรถdinger's Chat on Dec 20, 2016 21:56:52 GMT 1, I have a very strange collection, a scrap book of different versions of 'keep Britain tidy' the iconic image of someone putting their rubbish in the bin.
You would probably be surprised how inventive some companies have got over the years with that little image.

How on earth did you get in to that?! Not that I'm knocking it. But I think you may be the only collector of that in the world.

You would probably be surprised how inventive some companies have got over the years with that little image. How on earth did you get in to that?! Not that I'm knocking it. But I think you may be the only collector of that in the world. Ha Ha, it's a bit obscure isn't it. Basically I noticed probably 15+years ago that some companies messed about with the image by making it seasonal (Father Christmas binning rubbish), in line with a specific event (someone doing a bicycle kick next to the bin when the World Cup was on), I also noticed that sometimes they used their own Characters/branding E.g. Monster Munch, which show each of the different monsters binning their rubbish. I used to see it used on flyers for Raves where the bin was a record deck and the man was the KBT man (Tidy Trax record label from memory). Also used politically e.g. Binning the nazi symbol or against opposing football teams i.e. Binning the oppositions shirt. I pointed it out to my girlfriend and told her I'd always thought about collecting them up in a scrapbook but never got around to it and voila on my next birthday she had made me a scrapbook with me on the cover as the KBT Guy and she had kicked off the collection for me. I've then carried it on. To be honest I haven't added any for years now, but this thread has made me think I might start again, just for fun, and my kids are getting to the point where they might find it fun to look out for them too. A great benefit it has over collecting art is that it is a very very cheap hobby!

My scrapbook is in my loft somewhere but the links in my earlier post show most of the ones I have, from memory.
I like the idea of people going around checking their crisp packets today to look at the 'tidyman' on it.

What else do you collect?, by Viking Surfer on Dec 24, 2016 9:23:20 GMT 1, I collect Viking artefacts, here are a few of my Thor hammers.
All about 9 -11th century AD.
I've got quite a few other bits and bobs too.
I've been waiting to get a proper display case etc for them.

What else do you collect?, by rjf76 on Dec 24, 2016 10:28:21 GMT 1, Have an unhealthy 7" (mainly) vinyl collection! Still buy occasionally but not as much as I used to - would seek out all pressing variants - coloured vinyl, test pressings, tour pressings etc...
Mainly US Hardcore Punk from the last 30 years but also Punk, Garage Rock 'n' Roll and Ska.

Impressive. And there was me thinking I collected the oldest things on here. You've out done me by a few hundred years, sir.

The oldest thing I actually own (which is currently hanging around my wife's neck) is a greek tetradrachm from about 500 BC!
Beautiful it is.

What else do you collect?, by Layaway Days Art Blog on Dec 26, 2016 3:39:12 GMT 1, I vacillate between a few different hobbies. The first is game-worn NHL hockey memorabilia. My favorite player as a kid was Olli Jokinen from Finland. My collection can be viewed at hockeyandart.weebly.com
The other collection is watches. Right now, my collection consists of one watch: An Omega Speedmaster Reduced (Automatic). I have owned a vintage Rolex in the past as well as an Omega Seamaster. Really like Glasshutte and Lange & Sohne but cannot afford one. Maybe a pre-owned Navitimer or IWC at some point.

I have over 7,000 at last count some years ago and have hundreds signed and some doodled by dj's and artists e.g. Laurent Garnier, Dimitri from Paris, Derrick Carter, Adam Beyer, Roy Ayers, Jocelyn Brown etc... i'm at around 5K but many with doodles/signed due to running a techno night for the past 10 years and having over 250 artists who played at it..brings a new perspective to the music when the actual artist who produced it scribbles some words onto the sleeve
