New Micallef exhibition, by Stoko on Jun 11, 2014 17:37:58 GMT 1, About bloody time... This October Lazarides presents I Love That You Love What I Love a decadent solo exhibition from expressionist contemporary painter Antony Micallef. The lavish painterly display will take place at an undisclosed off-site London location and firmly place Micallef in the upper echelons of contemporary figuarative art, featuring a comprehensive body of provocative new large-scale works alongside a curation of poignant studies. I Love That You Love What I Love follows Micallef's acclaimed solo showcase Happy Deep Inside My Heart with his signature opulent style and heavy mark making reoccuring throughout. However, the forthcoming body sees the paint itself becoming the primary language, using the physicality of the medium to dictate the composition, with distortions of the iconic unearthly figures being stretched to greater boundaries of contortion. As with most of Micallef's most engaging work the show is littered with personal biographical references, utilising the decorative canvases and sensual medium as a vehicle to communicate and express emotion rather than illustrating it, delving deeper into the evocative artist's psyche than ever before. Prior to the grand unveiling you can visit Antony Micallef's recent artwork Little Tiny Kisses currently on display at the prestigious Royal Academy's Summer Exhibition. With only 600 artists showcased from over 12,000 entries the Summer Exhibition presents a significant display of forward-thinking artists across a variety of mediums definitely worth a look at. The exhibition opens to the public today and will be running until the 17th August, a perfect teaser whilst we wait with baited breath for Micallef's full-scale show.
