GARY HUME OG '1000 WINDOWS' FROM TATE BRITAIN FS!, by Gunny on Jun 18, 2014 1:15:04 GMT 1, There are people on here who have been around for years (myself included, under a different name before ) who complain about flippers. However, the truth of the matter is that most people who have been around for years have bought and sold much of their collection through the forum. Many have seen the value of their collections increase by selling stuff for a profit, buying something else and then selling again for a profit and so on. Eventually people get to have a bit of a collection and can start keeping things they like more of. Lets face it, who can keep all of what they buy. Many long standing members buy prints they do not like or prints they know will be a good turn around for a profit. This is exactly what Ruggs has done here, it's blatantly obvious. Although many will condone him for the BLATENT FLIP, many long standing members of this forum are just as guilty, although many try and hide it or make excuses for their sales. I have seen Ruggs selling many things over the years, I actually keep an eye on his sales threads as he sold a DOT DOT DOT to me last year quite cheap and then refunded me after I paid. I paid for it then he refunded me saying he wanted to keep it (realising he sold it to me too cheaply) - Anyway, the moral of the story is that NEARLY EVERYONE on this forum has bought and sold prints for a profit, and indeed a loss- lets not condone each other for it, just accept it for what it is or ban it from the forum altogether. I think it is also unfair for the long term members to condone the newbies, of course they want a bit of the action, didn't you when you first joined all those years ago? Unfortunately it has become a place to buy and sell art which is a bit sad really. If it was me I would start using Global Art Traders, at least that is a place where you can have a proper user profile to sell your art. Oh and yes I created that site as I saw that so many people were using the forum to sell their artwork! Anyway,RUGGS, BLATENT FLIP, but hey, isn't everyone at it, including good old FREERANGE?

Best post of the year Gunny, someone told me once that people here are full of hypocrisy... they bash newbies and accuse them of flipping, they bash flippers on ebay accusing them of inflating prices... but then, after the bashing, they do exactly the same (buying and selling and creating the bubble) but in their inner-art-elistist circle (big & middle galleries, auctions houses)... and that is well accepted, go understand ?
There are always few exceptions !!
Been here for years now, only sold two items (2Cents Alex - at cost - and Copyright 1USD note - with profit). All stuff I bought are either framed and on wall or under the bed waiting for framing... and that is why I haven't bought one single stuff for months now, becoz framing cost is brrrrrrrrr, and shall not be fooled by hype, price bubble, trends created by new and old members here.
Respect !

GARY HUME OG '1000 WINDOWS' FROM TATE BRITAIN FS!, by Gunny on Jun 18, 2014 9:26:24 GMT 1, Flipping is not alwaysdoing it straight away, people buy and leave in folders for a long time and try and predict when the time is right to sell. I would argue that90% of this forum have bought knowing that their purchase would be more valuable in the future!

Ruggs is a good chap, newbies coming along contributing nothing to the forum no avatar and no posts apart from forsale threads with recently released items at a highly inflated price then yea get angry.

GARY HUME OG '1000 WINDOWS' FROM TATE BRITAIN FS!, by Deleted on Jun 18, 2014 10:54:08 GMT 1, I don't think that many have an issue with buying and selling, that's how the art world works, its more the manner in which its done, if theres a print release and someone comes on and offers it at double the price before the print has even been shipped on an art community forum where a lot missed out who genuinely wanted it for the wall.... it just shouldn't happen. As toast said Ruggs contributes plenty to the forum. The best thing about the forum is members build a reputation through dealing and contributing with other members, they become trusted and it makes buying and selling your art privately much safer. Personally I wouldn't buy from someone with practically no posts, far too risky, its comforting when the seller says I've dealt with such and such and that's where new friendships begin.

GARY HUME OG '1000 WINDOWS' FROM TATE BRITAIN FS!, by Gunny on Jun 18, 2014 11:27:40 GMT 1, Wiz, I don't have a problem with selling art on at a profit, i really don't. Global Art Traders was created for people to sell their unwanted art, be that something they have had for a long time or a recent purchase. I don't even have a problem with flipping because I know that the majority of people who buy art for the intention of selling will be buying another piece or art to keep or eventually sell, or for some form of investment. It is what makes everything go round and for many of the publishers of prints to be successful. The publishers of prints say they don't like flippers, however, if there was not so many people flipping there would not be the demand for prints, especially at the prices things are getting released at these days! Look at some recent releases of prints by artists that many of us had never heard of before, the release prices are incredible really, considering. All in all, I do not have a problem with any of it, I think it all makes it more exciting and makes owning a special piece or art or print feel pretty special.

GARY HUME OG '1000 WINDOWS' FROM TATE BRITAIN FS!, by Wearology on Jun 18, 2014 11:45:24 GMT 1, I liken Flipping to the Paparazzi Versus Famous Person relationship. It is a necessary evil that both individuals reluctantly deal with because it helps out all parties involved. It may not be pretty, it is definitely annoying at times but it does serve it's purpose.

Nothing wrong in that at all, as I said before, many are at it, that was the point of my post, i see no wrong in what you are doing. I know you buy a lot of things and sell some.......... like many of us!

I know you buy a lot of things and sell some.......... like many of us! Galleries do it, why the hell can't I or anyone else for the matter. More importantly it not illegal. You've set up an online service for flippers to sell their wares, so in effect you're contradicting yourself. While there's a service on here which allows me to sell my stuff i'll use it. I've had virtually no problems buying or selling on here apart from you which you clearly haven't forgotten. Mate, move on, go get a life pleeeeeeeeeeeease! Can i also just say what input do you ever contribute to this forum apart from moaning and bitching?
