Shipping Large Canvas Domestically (in US), by bjornca on Jul 8, 2014 2:08:23 GMT 1, I need to ship a large canvas measuring ~48"x60" domestically (from NYC to CA) and wondered if anyone had recommendations on who to use, given the size. Looking for more economical and trustworthy choices than say UPS or FedEx (think they are both over $800)? Or, does anyone recommend having it un-stretched and then shipped rolled?
Thanks in advance.

Shipping Large Canvas Domestically (in US), by Deleted on Jul 8, 2014 2:21:55 GMT 1, $800? That doesn't sound right. I've had large pieces ship UPS and they weren't nearly that much. Have you tried calling UPS, or did you use their calculator?

Appreciate it @federationofideas no prob. let me know if you need help I think my issue with looking at it more, is if you add a few inches for packing (say 51x63x5), it pushes you over the limit for UPS ground package size and then says to use freight. Maybe I'll just need to call them on this...

Shipping Large Canvas Domestically (in US), by jB on Jul 8, 2014 7:22:40 GMT 1, If it is anything of value I would suggest going with excalibur. They are the only people I use for large and/or valuable works domestically.

Shipping Large Canvas Domestically (in US), by Black Apple Art on Jul 8, 2014 11:37:58 GMT 1, Have used Excalibur many times and never had an issue. Best value hands down domestic in the us is USPS priority insured. Will get anywhere in 2-3 days and being insured for full value covers you if you don't have an art umbrella policy as backup. They are about 60% less than FedEx and 40% less than UPS. Would never use them for international.

Shipping Large Canvas Domestically (in US), by Deleted on Jul 8, 2014 14:39:55 GMT 1, When I want to ship art domestically, it is always Fedex. They will not insure it, but packed properly + Fedex = have never had anything damaged.
International, I don't have as much experience. Did have a well-handled one involving Flight Logistics Group Ltd(UK based) which utilized DHL for the pick-up from my home in the US.

Shipping Large Canvas Domestically (in US), by bjornca on Jul 8, 2014 15:57:22 GMT 1, Thanks for all the replies. I think the size is too large for USPS, but will look into all the other options.
