Martin Whatson En Pointe Framing Offer........., by Mister Frame Man on Jul 31, 2014 10:44:43 GMT 1, After speaking to Martin he has reluctantly agreed to hand finish 15 sets of spacers for the print release from Graffiti Prints this afternoon, despite being busy with commissions, festival work and a November solo show!
So, here is the deal:
We would normally frame this for ยฃ195 to full conservation standard and with UV glass - Offer price ยฃ175
If you get lucky and would like us to frame your print please contact Graffiti Prints at the time of placing order or immediately afterwards via e mail, make sure you copy me in gary@photographyframing.co.uk
Once all prints have been delivered to me from Graffiti Prints I will place all names in a draw and 15 will be framed with Martin Whatson hand finished spacers
You will only find out if you were lucky with Whatson spacers on receipt of your framed piece!
Gary

Martin Whatson En Pointe Framing Offer........., by settingson on Jul 31, 2014 14:14:33 GMT 1, Oooh, this looks tempting! Remember seeing a Sandra Chevrier you did with matching spacers and thought that was awesome! No guarantees on this though so that's a bit of a pain as was toying with the idea of going for a hand finished piece as preferred the background but can't afford that and framing at the moment so it's decision time on a standard print and try and get lucky on a custom framing job or just go for the hand finished print! Decisions, decisions!! (will probably not get either on the drop so probably shouldn't worry! lol)

Martin Whatson En Pointe Framing Offer........., by settingson on Jul 31, 2014 14:53:47 GMT 1, Having the custom spacers really does set it off. That looks great. If I could guarantee the spacers I think it would be a definite!

Martin Whatson En Pointe Framing Offer........., by mikehaspey on Jul 31, 2014 19:15:58 GMT 1, Yeah same here, I would pay the money for guaranteed spacers but I can get the same standard framing close to home for less. It's a shame as I can't take a gamble on it.

Yes they were done by Martin. I think there was 15 frames for the angel release and they took their time to sell out. I can't understand why this is being done as a lottery, it doesn't make sense to me. As Mike has said, I can get the standard framing for less.

Martin Whatson En Pointe Framing Offer........., by settingson on Jul 31, 2014 19:41:53 GMT 1, Well, as I only managed to get the standard version and the only framed art prints I currently own were purchased direct from forum members, (very nice they are too!) I'll throw my hat in the ring and say that if there was a more straightforward option of the first 15 to confirm the framing request get the MW spacers then count me in for my first ever framing job!

There really is nothing quite like novelty framing.
What ever happened to all of those Nick Walker The Morning After prints? You know, the ones with the extra, matching-colour paint drips added by the framer onto the frames themselves?
They were truly remarkable.

Martin Whatson En Pointe Framing Offer........., by Deleted on Aug 1, 2014 12:00:41 GMT 1, I must be odd one out on this, not doubt it looks cool as a decorative object and its different but for me its too busy and draws you're eye away from the important bit, the image. Personal taste and no knock on MrF.

Martin Whatson En Pointe Framing Offer........., by Mister Frame Man on Aug 3, 2014 20:31:49 GMT 1, I am merely offering a service, in the same way that somebody does when fitting alloy wheels to a car, or the person adding highlights to your hair, or the guy laying a brick weave drive at your house.......the list is endless!
If you like something different then great, if you prefer your hair the natural colour, or your wheels stock, or your driveway tarmac then keep walking!
90% of my clients prefer their art framed in white or black box frames and I wouldn't try to advise differently, but just like any business the need to offer something different in today's climate is more relevant than ever!
There are no rules in how to frame pieces, just many opinions!

No need, the print doesn't touch the spacer! The paint is the same paint as Martin uses for all his original work.

Martin Whatson En Pointe Framing Offer........., by Mark Perronet on Aug 3, 2014 21:21:13 GMT 1, Have to agree with Castle Gallery..surely the point of a frame, mount etc is to present the artwork to its best advantage, isolating it from other distracting stuff, wallpaper etc. These spacers just seem to add distraction inside the frame. I am sure its a beautiful job!

Martin Whatson En Pointe Framing Offer........., by aberdoom on Aug 3, 2014 21:31:07 GMT 1, I guess your not getting the point... its to everyones taste isnt it? If someone wanted to staple the print to the wall cause they didnt like frames and it distracts from the print, who are we to argue with them...
I think this gives it something else from other frames! Some people like the big ornate frames, some as mentioned (like me) like the white/black box frames to frame their work...
Its horses for courses... if you like it, get it... if not... "then keep walking!"

Martin Whatson En Pointe Framing Offer........., by Mark Perronet on Aug 3, 2014 21:46:13 GMT 1, I completely get the point and have no desire to start a silly spat, i was just expressing an opinion, this is a chat forum is it not? I also think that I/we would have every reason to start an argument that it is really not a good idea to staple prints to the wall.

Martin Whatson En Pointe Framing Offer........., by met on Aug 6, 2014 19:50:55 GMT 1, The most extraordinary example I've ever seen of an artiste-framer "merely offering a service" resulted in the following (I'm guessing by Mister Frameman, but do correct me if that's wrong):
Stunning. In the most literal sense. I'm just as stunned today as I was after first witnessing this creation a few years ago.
No doubt Paul Insect himself would appreciate the imposed collaborative effort, including the framer's helpful improvements to the composition, balance and scale of his work.
[Mea culpa: Photo borrowed without permission from a forum member, although this must surely fall within a copyright exception like 'Educational Use'.]
I also agree "there are no rules in how to frame pieces". Nor should there be. Tastefulness may appeal to the snobs but it certainly isn't a rule. The same goes for sensitivity towards an artist's work, or framing with the objective of complementing that work. All of these โ like other people's opinions โ are, as David Thorne might say, "merely hurdles constructed of inanity".
