Part of the inevitable membership agreement is that we meet biennially to celebrate and take pictures of us all holding our prints while dressed in matching head-to-toe denim.

PRINT COMMISSION CLUB - Seed Thread, by johnnyh on Aug 7, 2014 17:54:20 GMT 1, johnnyh, what is so new about this concept? The movie poster fanatics on EB have been doing this for years, and their most recent foray in to the "urban" art world with Eelus is what prompted this very thread. coller is looking for a utopia, but he is never going to find it. You simply cannot control the intentions of others, nor what they choose to do with their own possessions. Just saying something new on here not a new concept to the world. Re DSS and utopia not sure if that is fair or accurate but he is in my view allowed to set is concept out any way he wants and try and find like minded people. Maybe he will or won't be successful but fair play to him for giving it a go.

Darker on top? Or bottom? It's a deal breaker.

PRINT COMMISSION CLUB - Seed Thread, by umphreak on Aug 7, 2014 19:21:01 GMT 1, Moral questions have been answered, IMO. We have several people from the Eelus commission group as members, as well as members from other private commission groups, so will be discussing the legal aspects with them, but I don't personally see why we need to form a corporation for this to work. We will see. I'm an attorney (in the USA) and can see benefits and detriments on forming a legal entity when engaging in this project. That said, I don't see it as being absolutely necessary. Perhaps if this really took off, a non-profit could be set up, but at this stage, i see this as overly complicating an already complicated project.
There should be a basic agreement governing this, but i don't see the need, at this time, to form an entity.

PRINT COMMISSION CLUB - Seed Thread, by Deleted on Aug 7, 2014 21:01:31 GMT 1, What is the point of a print commission club?
Would it ruin some so called urban artists street cred?
Also regarding flippers but not porpoises.
It looks to me like some artists are churning out editions with flippers in mind knowing that the editions will be flipped which is good for sales and good for raising the retail prices of future editions.

PRINT COMMISSION CLUB - Seed Thread, by natstan on Aug 8, 2014 2:23:43 GMT 1, Dss, actually why must it be formed as a club where members are bound by rules and regulations?
Will it help simplify things if you gather members here to only subscribe to a commission each time before you want to approach a certain artist? You can personalise each print (put names of those who want the prints at the back of the prints if you must, to avoid flipping) and keep the edition smaller at around 50-75 each time. To be fair, your project has the potential to be fun and far-reaching to more keen members who are true collectors wanting a try in this project, but by setting out rules in such strict manner, you make things a little too complicated and turn them off. Also, you have to acknowledge the fact that not everybody is keen on works by every single artist on that list. For eg, I'm not so into Invader's works and I only liked a couple of dface and faile's prints. Give members who join you a choice - this forum is about having fun and enjoyment of works of artist they like.
As well, may I suggest that if you wish to engage big names to be even mildly interested in this project, why don't you propose this to them as a charity exercise, meaning all proceeds from us goes to an organisation of his or her choice (or we can decide on one)? Financial gains and satisfying the wants of an online forum are obviously not on the minds of the big names.
In this case, scummy (for a lack of a better word) members who bought the prints can flip all the hell they want, if the act of generating a healthy profit from this don't p*ick at their conscience. Go ahead then, boys...

Go ahead then, boys... Really, any club needs rules and regulations in order to function; otherwise you'd have to assume that everyone's interests are automatically in line with all other club members. I'm not trying to create overly-restrictive rules; I think it's unfortunate that a 'no-flipping' policy is viewed that way.
And I think we'd have a much better chance of making this project happen with the 'blind interest in artists' approach; otherwise things will become extremely complicated in attempting to determine how many individuals want/will reliably pay for the print being commissioned. I think people are sort of overestimating the level of choice that they would realistically be able to have in order for a project like this to work. Beyond choosing the artists, I really doubt you will be able to specify anything regarding the commission (I don't see artists taking heavy suggestions re: what image to use for the screenprint, etc.) so liking the artist abstractly is the best approach, IMO.
I know the project isn't for everyone.

PRINT COMMISSION CLUB - Seed Thread, by Deleted on Aug 8, 2014 15:41:13 GMT 1, Of course it could work if people paid an annual membership to join the (Insert word like Urban or Street etc in front of) PCC.
If the rules stated that the print is only available to buy by registered members of the PCC and COA's are or could be held back to prevent re selling the print to non members.
Having said that a lot of people have to re sell a print or artwork in order to buy something more expensive.
Here is a print club.

PRINT COMMISSION CLUB - Seed Thread, by Deleted on Aug 14, 2014 21:56:46 GMT 1, Final Post in the thread!
I'm going to be very busy with interviews this week and next for 2015 Associate positions, but I plan on sending out the first e-mail this weekend and then processing the information from the responses over the following two weeks (to give you a heads up of the timeline, in case you were wondering what happened).
Still have a glimmer of hope this could work, despite the beautiful negativity sprinkled throughout this thread.

I believe him, Marvel, and a third party commissioned a series, but this poster wasn't part of it; this was a separate private commission (although Ferguson is apparently releasing APs! shhhh). I think a bunch of fans contacted him and told him to make a replica Star Wars poster edition for them and he liked the idea, or something along those lines.

PRINT COMMISSION CLUB - Seed Thread, by Deleted on Nov 4, 2014 21:08:11 GMT 1, I was just reading the last few posts and was wondering that myself. Was this just to complicated to get off the ground? I liked the initial idea but it seems there is a lot of negative comments, albeit a lot of positive ones also.
