Cheapest way to send a flat print from the US to UK?, by Deleted on Aug 20, 2014 21:52:14 GMT 1, Hi, I'm selling my Eine Amusement to another forum member in the UK. The print will have to be shipped flat. USPS online calculator says it will cost around $90 to ship... anyone know of a less expensive way to get it over there?

Any reason why it can't be rolled - as they were sent originally?

Cheapest way to send a flat print from the US to UK?, by Nick on Aug 20, 2014 23:35:07 GMT 1, Would actually like this answer so more advice please! Looks like fed can tube but i potentially need to send some RAE pieces to the US which are caked in paint. Never posted flat before...the obvious is between wood, but that will weigh and cost a tonne.

Cheapest way to send a flat print from the US to UK?, by mrchristopherrobinso on Aug 20, 2014 23:41:51 GMT 1, I used to work in a frame shop and we would cut 2 pieces of foam core to sandwich the print in and tape them together, then cut to pieces of thicker cardboard to go outside of that and tape them together, then wrap it up in butcher paper.
Sometimes FedEx will be cheaper for heavier packages, but I do not know about international shipments.

Sometimes FedEx will be cheaper for heavier packages, but I do not know about international shipments. While in the US, I would regularly send flat prints of around 27" x 27" abroad. Mr Christopherrobino's method was basically the one I used.
The cheapest way to ship is USPS (The US post office). [Also the maximum indemnity for FexEx is $500, whereas USPS allows you to fully insure if desired.] The print is 24" by 24", so even if you give a lot of leeway and make a 30" x 30" x 5" package (max is length+girth 108") you can ship via USPS simply by weight. The best cost to shipping time option is Priority Mail International. It includes tracking and you can add on additional insurance.
When you use the shipping calculator on USPS it hides the lower Priority Mail rate, so you have to make sure to click on that option and see the cheaper quote.
So for a 30" x 30" x 5" weighing 9 pounds, the cost is $71.50 or $63.02 if the label is done online. Having said that, if you use the foam core method, the print should be more like 5-7 pounds. By tube would probably be about half the price due to the lighter weight.

The weird thing is, the site says you can insure it for up to $5,000, but once you go over $400, it says "no services available." So it looks like $400 would be the maximum insurance value.

Cheapest way to send a flat print from the US to UK?, by cafebrazil on Aug 21, 2014 5:49:07 GMT 1, For USPS the size limits differ between regular parcels and priority international. Max 88 in length and girth for regular post. regular would give you about 10 inches extra once you account for the size of the print, so you could send a 27x27x3 or so parcel that way.
It may be the case that a first class parcel has a low insurance limit; however priority mail can be insured for thousands of dollars.
despite a limit, first class is still better than Fed ex which would charge a lot more for postage and still leave it underinsured.
Note that it is $49.84 for international priority for a 4 pound parcel if paid online.
