Real art collectors , by Deleted on Aug 30, 2014 21:49:03 GMT 1, This is a thread to all the real art collectors out there , I'm so pissed off and fed up with 'lucky' banksy collectors that bought 5-10 years ago and their collection is now worth a fortune , looking down on real collectors that see Banksy as nothing more than an 'must have' ! I've been collecting art for nearly 15 years and my collection varies from the old to the new inc emerging contemporary . My banksy holding is substantial yet to an extent minimal as I believe there are so many other artists out there that are so much better ! There are guys on here that think they are the biggest collectors because they have many Banksy pieces yet they no fuvk all about art ! They show each other their art like comparing cock sizes when a teenager and their only concern in life is the value of their Banksy collection Ate these guys art collectors or just lucky bastards that won the lottery when Banksy made good ? I know if I asked any one of these guys about any other artist today their eyes would glaze over as if I was asking them 12x12 times tables . Thick , ignorant , self opinionated they look down every day on those that buy and sell Banksy Banksy is a cash cow that I admit has helped fund my collection over the years but I have never ever been such a t**t as to think that because I have an original or two, I'm am better than most ! And believe you me forumites this happens here ! This isn't art loving nor art collecting , it's just plain lucky! You twats know who you are and I know who you are ! There are do many real art lovers on this forum they deserve respect , can you guys honestly say you love your art ? Or do you just love the value of your art ? Would love to hear comments ?!

Real art collectors , by South Bound on Aug 30, 2014 22:04:48 GMT 1, So what would you like to talk about? While I love painting (preference being Eine) I am a trained cinematographer but my true love has always been photography. I love Bruce Davidson and his Spanish Harlem series. I love the fact that not only does be explore the darker side of american life but he would live in the environment for years. But I could go on and on.
I know it is cliche but I really do love the old vestibules that were painted by the renaisannce masters, or how the Dutch masters were the masters of light and how cubism was heavily influenced by the first silent films.
What do you want to talk about?

Real art collectors , by Sohoria on Aug 30, 2014 22:07:53 GMT 1, I think many like the idea of whatever they have in their own art collections has value. Some have got artwork because they love and in the long term they will pass onto their children.
My own fav piece is Micallef Bethlehem, great forum member reached out and could see how much I loved the powerful artwork and sent across to me for cost! Still proudly have and means more to me now too.
I don't think you will get many responses of people saying only buy for the value openly.

Real art collectors , by South Bound on Aug 30, 2014 22:18:00 GMT 1, I think the reason why I like Eine so much is his attention to form and composition. I love the fact that he typically chooses the Highest quality paint (his words, not mine) and that he is a master printer himself.
While I dig his paintings with a message (adventure, revolution, etc.) I am more an A - Z guy because he is so focused on the individual form and comp. and how it plays with the whole (like the famous missing W).
Would love to own a Circus A-Z some day but they are not cheap or easy to find.

(well the ones that I have read) ... I do not know of the tw#ts who show off their banksy's p3nises ... but maybe I have led a sheltered life ?!?
I know that I (am lucky to) own some very nice pieces (and I am not talking about banksy's) I have shared (some) of them on the forum as I think of people would like to see them and am also willing to share my knowledge ... I hope that you feel calmer soon & don't let the tw@ts get you down

I'm trying to get across that those on here that Save every penny to buy a ยฃ50 print as they love the art are so much better than those that 'got lucky and think they are better

Real art collectors , by South Bound on Aug 30, 2014 22:25:18 GMT 1, While I can dig Duschamp and the concept that art is not necessarily an image but an idea encased in an image (or object) such as a urinal, my preference always leans towards those who have mad skills and mad intellect that they can only exhibit through their painting or sculpture no matter how basic or complex.
I just woke up so my statement is as foggy as my brain... I apologize .

Real art collectors , by South Bound on Aug 30, 2014 22:37:36 GMT 1, personally, I don't care about the value of any of my collection. I care about the enjoyment I get waking up and seeing the walls in my house covered in images that I love. If I had any say, art wouldn't be worth more than the paper, ink, and artist's time. I would LOVE it if art prices dropped considerably, or if pieces never rose above the prices they originally sold at. That way I'd be able to afford the MANY pieces that I love but sadly can't own, and probably will never be able to afford (Banksy's at the top of that list )
Never say never my friend. It is a natural progression, one minute you can't afford it, the next you have something crazy dumped in your lap.
Has happened to me multiple times while I was in my History phase... Actually 2 weeks ago I was given 2 dozen sketches of civil war battle fields drawn just after the battle by newspaper artists and I turned around and parted with the majority to a friend who is a big collector in exchange for a beer... Why? Because he needed something nice to happen to him.
You'll get your chance.

Real art collectors , by Sohoria on Aug 30, 2014 22:38:07 GMT 1, If it goes back on track maybe it can make for an interesting discussion, if you can tidy post to remove threats too.
Obviously both have an issue with each other but would say keep to PM.

Real art collectors , by Chrisp on Aug 30, 2014 22:38:21 GMT 1, anyway....
I am very jealous of lots of people on this forum that own Banksys as I donโt own anything by him, I only starting collecting 2010/11 and did not have a clue about f5 and failed on a one or two lotteries. I was going to buy my first in September but I have now decided to put the cash towards a camper van for my family to enjoy next year, which I think is the best choice. I would love to own one still but life is short and cash can be spent on much better things than looking at a picture on a living room wall. All the artwork I do own I love and still I am buying more but I can safely say unless I learn magic I cannot see me ever owning a Bansky now.

Like the stock response.
My buddy is a budding artist (and Marxist) out in LA and recently told me painting is dead and from now on he only does conceptual art... Dude was commanding 5 figures easy for a painting and now he does shit like puts a cow heart on a pedestal and drives a nail through it (first time is at the show opening for an audience). I asked him "well doesn't it start to smell" and you would have thought I was from mars.
Love him, but he needs to come back to the east coast... Bad.

Yet I also hear of the of the uglier side which involves the so called big boys of the forum who let's just say , have their own little agenda and it makes me sick ! This is not a rant it's just an observation , I have never ever put anyone's collection down on this forum , I have never slagged an artist and I have helped a lot of starters , and I know many many others on here do the same , it just sickens me when some think their balls are bigger

The thing is the dude is brilliant. His paintings are nuts, subversive, well executed and family friendly... But painting is now dead to him. One thing has not changed, he is still great at telling and receiving filthy jokes... Ya know the finer things in life. He is evolving, its what happens I suppose, different influences and backgrounds etc., see where he goes next. I bet hes a Libran.

Real art collectors , by Sundowner on Aug 30, 2014 23:04:35 GMT 1, Having had the misfortune to read the entirety of this thread, it is obvious why so many older members have left this forum in droves over the last couple of years. This place has become so full of sniping and bullying by people that have no interest in the art itself, only in how much things are worth and how they can manipulate outcomes to their own ends.
