How do you pay for your art?, by Deleted on Sept 28, 2014 11:32:43 GMT 1, So Im looking round the site of late and it seems that people are wedging seriously cash at Bnashky prints. Dont really want to delve into the whole market and bubblenomincs and behaviorial economics , but just wondering how people pay for art ?
Not looking for your bank account detials or any other stuff, just a general idea of how people can afford stuff
Do you put away money each month , bang it on a card, use soemthing like own art schemes?
If you are a HNW individual, then its all shits and giggles - but for the majority of other people, its a serious commitment- we are talking a new car or house in Middlesboro kind of money
Me ? Card then pay it off asap. probabaly not ideal, but i go for impluse purchases and have a family, so dont have stupid money slopping about for this kind of jolly
be interested to see a discussion on this ( cock waving is not acceptable )

How do you pay for your art?, by DrWhite on Sept 28, 2014 11:39:08 GMT 1, I'd move this to the urban art thread - rather than under art for sale. In answer to your question I just dip into my No.5 account.

How do you pay for your art?, by Lroy on Sept 28, 2014 12:07:16 GMT 1, As kids who do not know the chance to work ( lol ) , I don't pay, I just can look and don't have to touch.... As the grannies playing at the lotto, It could happen that I pay with extra red beans ( bio )...
More seriously, why the galleries don't give you a chance to pay in 3 or 10 months or at the payday, whey they don't keep your ( full ) basket under the ?... Fruits and spinach could become rotten at the end ?
Anyway, I think the question strange, when you live at 50000000 billions of miles from the countries with a channel or an ocean full of salted water and fishes between our countries, I wonder how we could pay without a credit card ? By satellite ? Of love ? ;-)

How do you pay for your art?, by e3massive on Sept 28, 2014 13:22:20 GMT 1, Banksy's seem to be for people with mega cash, which unfortunately is not me. I have not used the owner art schemes, but I do think are a good idea. Credit cards with miles or points are also good, but as you say you need to pay it off every month. Nothing beats hard cash, but then you have to wait for it to be in hand or use the offshore account .....l

They are designed to keep you in perpetual debt at exorbitant rates of interest. The only time they are useful is for absolute emergencies affecting /health/income/safety etc. If your using credit cards as a standard tool and not paying off every cent every month you are reducing the long term $EV of your life drastically.
It's so much better to save and then buy what you want when you have the money in almost all circumstances.
I have been very fortunate in my career over the last 5 or so years but previous to that I had a mountain of credit card debt, the first thing I did when I had a steady income was clear all my credit cards and I have never used one since. It's much better this way.

Buying things with a credit card so there's greater protection in the event of the item not coming through can be a good thing, but I agree with your principle.

How do you pay for your art?, by Deleted on Sept 28, 2014 18:56:47 GMT 1, I am at the cheaper end of the banksy prints but i tend to work my a$$ of and save a little every month untill i can buy a print i really like. I'll pay it of at once in cash and never use a creditcard and i will never get into debt for a piece of art. Also no big fan of payment plans myself. Art is for enjoyment and i believe that getting into debt wears more on people than getting enjoyment from an image.

How do you pay for your art?, by Schrรถdinger's Chat on Sept 28, 2014 19:52:03 GMT 1, I try as much as possible to not buy anything by going into debt (loan or credit card).
I save up and then 'slowly slowly catchy monkey' i look out for the prints I like at a price I can afford / think is reasonable.
Has led to a modest collection of prints that i love that end up framed and on the wall, not in a folder - but that's no bad thing right?
Those I decide won't make the wall i try and put back in to circulation - speaking of which Bot - Grow Up anyone?

How do you pay for your art?, by Deleted on Sept 28, 2014 21:56:11 GMT 1, Savings account mostly. That recently ran low, so was about to put a moratorium on print-buying. And then my grandfather died two weeks ago, and left me funds with specific instructions to not bank them, but rather to spend them on something tangible. And here I am.
That said, my walls are almost full and I am not the flatfile type; I only need about 2-3 more pieces and then it will be relaxing until I get tired of images and play the trade game.

I am surprised by the amount of members on here who need to start shifting stuff when the car broke down / baby is on the way / family wants a holiday. Doesn't sound healthy to me.
