Looking for ideas - wide piece of art, by Deleted on Oct 21, 2014 21:50:49 GMT 1, With that kind of budget maybe find and artist you really like and try going down the commission route? That way you'll get exactly what you want by an artist you love. Not sure, but I don't know of many if any prints that size but happy to be proved wrong

Looking for ideas - wide piece of art, by Deleted on Oct 21, 2014 22:39:47 GMT 1, If you have a £10k budget you can get a lot of art for your money. Take your time. But as I have said Jago is my man and you get more than one for that money easily.

Looking for ideas - wide piece of art, by Deleted on Oct 21, 2014 23:00:18 GMT 1, Depends on the wall and the decoration and style of art you like.
For 10K you could get Brainwash to come round and chuck paint around.
Or you could get a real artist to make something good in whichever style or genre turns you on.

Looking for ideas - wide piece of art, by Deleted on Oct 22, 2014 2:50:43 GMT 1, maybe hit up some galleries and see what they have for that price range?
Jonathan Levine, white walls, hvyw8, known, library street collective, lazarides, etc? Then from that list start researching the artists you're drawn too.

Looking for ideas - wide piece of art, by Deleted on Oct 22, 2014 17:14:56 GMT 1, I would advise not bothering with middle men but deal direct with an artist. That works only when the artist isnt represented, or isnt busy with shows.
Plus, I usually stray away from commissions, because you technically dont know what youre getting. Its nicer to go for the pieces you love, rather than commissioning an artist to try and mimic a particular style or piece that youve seen.

Interesting in that I have always got what I want with a commission. I love describing my vision and letting the artist free with it.

Super glad you've always gotten what you wanted, If thats the case, keep that going.
Maybe its because Ideation and Creative Strategy is my job (I write ideas and briefs for advertising), that I just want the artist to be free and unhinged from my ideas. I'm buying their work for their vision, and have found disappointment when I expect them to create mine perfectly. Also, for me, their work and ideas are timeless, and my own Im constantly trying to out do...

The artist has to be left to do the art as they want based on an original brief.
Or the client has to say what they want at the beginning and the artist sticks to the clients brief.
Usually the fuck ups and animosity arrive when a client has an idea and the artist starts on it then the client shows their friends the unfinished art in progress and the friends become art critics and the client wants to make changes and the artist goes along with it and it turns into one big fuck up.
Also when a middle man gets between an artista nd a client can also lead to a fuck up.
Surely with a 10 K budget if an artist can't be arsed to communicate direct with a client then don't give them the comission.
Just because gallery A or B sells some art for high prices through a galley with high overheads doesn't mean a lot.
There are good up and coming artists who would be able to do a large piece on a wall well within that budget offered and with more imagination than a scaled up giant space invader.

Looking for ideas - wide piece of art, by Deleted on Oct 26, 2014 11:07:48 GMT 1, Both Matt Small and Parla and great choices. However I wouldn't spend £10k on a water colour of his. They just don't do it for me. The main thing here is just be patient. You I've bought almost all my art earlier enough to not pay mental prices. Then if you have any give your art to your kids straight away. The Mrs can never tell you to sell something to pay for a new kitchen(like I had too with a Beejoir LV child canvas). My only regret in the art game.
