Alaric Hammond London Exhibition, by MGK1 on Oct 23, 2014 21:51:00 GMT 1, I thoroughly his last exhibition at 'The Outsiders' - his work for the new show looks very very good.
Alaric Hammond's new solo show 'From Cheek to Blushing Cheek' is a dystopian collection of paintings, drawing's and original monotype prints exploring themes of protest and subterfuge within a world of decayed imperial grandeur. The artist presents varied styles of abstracted portraiture where the subject's eyes and words are frequently obscured, often employing scrawled text, cartoonish details and comic violence to create an uneasy sense of hidden agendas and masked intentions.
Working from original collage Alaric has developed a highly original and textural approach to printmaking which is central to the new body of work presented in the show.
"ALARIC IS TO STREET ART WHAT THROBBING GRISTLE WERE TO PUNK" (The Outsiders Gallery)
U.K. based artist Alaric Hammond's debut exhibition for Lazarides' The Outsiders Gallery quickly established his prodigious talent for innovative image making originally honed from within the highly influential INSECT collective and his continued collaborations with founder Paul Insect long after the studio closed in the final months of 2007.
Recent international exhibitions have taken place in Tokyo and Berlin with continued print releases from The Outsiders. In May 2013 Alaricโs โSuper Gluttโ was included alongside Eduardo Paolozzi, Antoni Tapies and Karl Schmidt-Rottluff the Hatton Galleryโs Art & Textโ exhibition in support of the Ed Ruscha retrospective Pay Nothing Until April.
Alaric has developed a diverse practice of painting, drawing, collage and ๏ฌne art printmaking centred around his fresh approach to the traditional technique of etching. Alongside intaglio and monotype printing the artist often employs a variety of unique acid bath techniques to corrode metal plates combined in assemblages which dramatise the effect of decades of wear from the natural passage of time and weather, at the hand of man in the form of pollution, neglect and vandalism.
