Basically much like sitcoms, there are a few plot lines that get repeated ad infinitum:
1 - great print! affordable! damn I didn't get one! damn the flippers!
2 - great print! are they crazy with that price! damn I can't get one! let's see the flippers sell that!
3 - lousy print! let's see the flippers sell that!
Plus the I like it...you do?..I don't...and the occasional moment of someone getting what they want.

STRENGTHENING OUR COMMUNITY, by Lesson1 on Oct 24, 2014 14:44:18 GMT 1, Interesting thread. I recently had one of the new invaders in my cart but the missus didn't like it. I posted that I would release it at a specific time so a member could get it (sadly it didn't work out that way) but I had loads of members asking me to buy it and flip it to them for a small fee. I would have done it for the price of the postage but got nervous that they could be getting it from me to simply flip? It could have helped a genuine member or could have been lucrative for a flipper, who knows. I thought it best to release it so the actual buyer had proof of ownership direct from the gallery.

STRENGTHENING OUR COMMUNITY, by Dibbs 45 on Oct 24, 2014 14:44:39 GMT 1, A valuable member in my book is not about how many stars you've got or when you registered on the sometimes snorum. It's about contributing and adding value (not price) to this vast arena called street art and graff. I think if you post photos?, information about up and coming shows and heads up for releases and introduce new artists that others have not heard of, then your doing a good deal of contributing. Informed opinions and contentious debate are healthy as well, without it resorting to puerile absurdity. Sometimes I thing WTF when you read a thread. Perhaps I'm being the middle aged man. Why drag a flippers argument on that's been going on for years that is regurgitated time and time again.
As for doing people favours I couldn't agree more. I sometimes buy on a drop not because I want it or profit from it but may know someone who can't get to the PC to F5 for it. We shouldn't want anything in return. I've met some great people on this forum and are still meeting more. I'Ve not met many c..ts. But there are quite clearly some on here. It's a big network so your going to get them. Just ignore them. On the whole this a good place to come.

STRENGTHENING OUR COMMUNITY, by sgolby on Oct 24, 2014 15:04:16 GMT 1, Can we not just get over the whole 'flippers' thing.... It happens, it will always happen, b*tching about it on and on and throwing little tantrums every time you see the print you missed out on release get sold for a profit isn't going to make it go away! I collect art, I've met some great members on here face to face, dealt with many buying, selling and trading. Most of the art I buy has been secondary, far exceeding the release price at current 'market rate'. I've sold pieces duriong my time at a loss, at price I paid and made profit. I've been lucky enough to get a couple of pieces on release, but literally a couple.... Recently I decided to sale one of those failry quickly after release (for my own reasons) and actually took the decision to make a profit on it, because do you know what, I have bills to pay, a life to lead and I'm yet to win the Euro Millions! Rather than coming on here and selling to a forum member to avoid the inevitable fall out I just took it to eBay, I didn't price it extortionately and after fees/shipping actually made a very small profit... It actually sold to a decent member on here anyway funnily enough, who was happy with the price and the fact that I had decided to sale something I own quickly after release for a profit whilst being reasonable. I feel I've also contributed to the forum.... I've helped members out on releases before and trades, given some freebies away as well and done my bit for charity. Forum members cannot be simply packaged, people cannot be simply packaged., but I agree with one thing whole heartedly that this thread looks to accomplish. Focus on the positive, it's your choice how you react to any given situation and negging out over it is annoying you far more than anyone you're aiming the negativity at! In my humble opinion, this is SPOT ON!!!!!!

I wondered what PB meant in the original post, now I know I feel strangely violated... I can imagine the next q for a print outside a gallery, everyone standing in two's holding hands (like a primary school outing), with someone walking up and down the line checking everyone's with their... I can't type it!
As Json24 said, just try and be civil, as we all are usually in real life.
My one bit of philosophy is, you've got to have a negative (aggro haters and keyboard warriors) for there to be a positive (relaxed and polite people)... one can't exist without the other.
And if this forum was just full of the latter how f**king boringly twee would it be.
Remember this is a Banksy, Street Art, Urban Art forum... not some afternoon knitting social with fairy cakes and tea in flowery cups!

STRENGTHENING OUR COMMUNITY, by Deleted on Oct 24, 2014 20:15:14 GMT 1, I read many posts here which I refrain from commenting on, and the whole flipping thing has been one of these. I first signed up here purely to check out what people were buying and selling. I have bought nothing as yet and sold nothing. I have kept coming back โ and at the risk of making a complete arse of myself even made all sorts of commentsโฆโฆ. why? Because there are people on here who have brains the size of planets, who are super intelligent, supportive, helpful, in short people who have a certain amount of integrity (and that wasn't a word I learnt in the classroom). I even read every IS thread comment, despite calls for it to close, and learnt a lot about the whole middle east situation โ becoming more informed, when the BBC tell you nothing, and most people like me know sweet FA. Also the whole SNP thing โฆ it was possible to agree to disagree here, and get to know โ in a civil way, what others thinkโฆ. We actually had democracy! The give aways people have held have been exceptionally generous, and there are many good folk who sell at costโฆ.that in it-self told me something. Flippers for what it's worth have done me a favour. The result of making prints unaffordable - by reselling at prices that I would never pay has made me learn more about other artists - which I have in part learnt about here. For example, why buy an over priced flipped print when you could buy an original from someone like Carl Cashman (not that I have, but you get my drift). The 50 quid art thread has been great โ introducing people to loads of new artists and galleries. Art is such a broad church, that the flippers can keep their wares as far as I'm concerned, and if I don't like the personal point scoring and exchange of insulting stuff people write, I go to a different thread or log out! Simple! Oh and I almost forgot, checking out other peoples musicโฆ.getting introduced to stuff I've never heard beforeโฆ.I will contribute a bit here myself shortly. Phew! Thatโs blown away the cobwebs. I enjoyed your post so much that I will retire the Les Mis video, in your honor. That's the biggest compliment I can give someone

STRENGTHENING OUR COMMUNITY, by cerulean on Oct 24, 2014 20:45:23 GMT 1, Thank you all for your responses. My intention in starting this thread was to shift the focus away from the debate over flipping. There will always be flippers. Although I disdain full-time flippers who have no interest in art, I place no judgement on those who choose to do so as a way to offset the cost of their own art purchases. That's a choice they are free to make. It's the reality of the world we live in.
My initial post was intended simply as an invitation to those who have expressed frustration & disillusionment over the practice of flipping to become more actively involved in the spirit of cooperation by giving an equal voice to such an experience.
(Also, I'm not suggesting that it's an either or proposition nor that people should do so blindly.)

If you don't want to pay fair market value for something than don't. The supermarket sells oranges at a markup from their wholesaler, let's all lineup to complain!
