Ben Frost World War 3 Stencil on Canvas, by Deleted on Jan 22, 2015 11:37:09 GMT 1, Kind of a cool image. Seems to be a lot of people riffing on these quasi-Lichtenstein girls these days though.
Don't know much about this artist but looks like he released an edition of 20 of these, a bit smaller, on wood not so long ago.
Anyone getting this?

Ben Frost World War 3 Stencil on Canvas, by Deleted on Jan 22, 2015 15:27:27 GMT 1, no need for name calling. some children read this forum, I suspect certainly do! despite you seeming to think we're not allowed to have our own opinions, I'd love to hear yours. What do you like most about Ben Frost? I see that you've made a few posts on here about his work. What do you think makes his art excel, and stand out from Lichtenstein (which themselves are derived from old-school comics)? what does he add to them to make them unique?

Ben Frost World War 3 Stencil on Canvas, by Happy Shopper on Jan 22, 2015 15:34:52 GMT 1, Bit harsh attacking Ben Frost because one image looks a bit comic book like. None of his other work does, so it's pretty pointless discussing/defending it.
It's a great image, and a great price for an editioned canvas!

I don't really know his work so I can't comment on it at all. judging from this one piece, he's obviously a talented painter Just seems like the Lichtenstein/comic trope has been done to death lately. That's all I was saying.

Ben Frost World War 3 Stencil on Canvas, by Oski on Jan 22, 2015 16:30:44 GMT 1, I've seen Ben's work over the last couple of years and was at his solo show in the LES last year. He is a talented artist, but I do agree with some of the others that the Lichtenstein theme has become a bit cliche as of late, and maybe it's through no fault of Ben's, but many other urban artists have aped the pop art thing, and specifically Lichtenstein, including D*Face, Denial, and Cyrcle (HK Capture the Flag show).
Banksy took a stab at Warhol with his Kate and Soup Can, but didn't devote his whole body of work around that as I've seen from Ben (it's not just this piece).
While this particular piece doesn't really evolve and extend what Lichtenstein had done, in fact it's an outright ripoff, I do really like Ben's paintings on drug packages, such as the one below:
I believe Ben's series with drug and consumer packages is a further statement of the throwaway nature of popular culture, our reliance on chemicals/shopping as coping mechanisms, and it also allows for further interpretation and interaction between what he's painted to the packaging itself. I hope to see him further develop this idea.

Ben Frost World War 3 Stencil on Canvas, by Oski on Jan 22, 2015 17:00:53 GMT 1, Here's a picture from Ben's show here in NYC last year. There is a range of popular culture characters and consumer packages that's really cool.
