How much art makes it on your wall?, by Hairbland on Nov 4, 2014 13:27:11 GMT 1, Virtually 100% - have 3-4 pieces in framing staging area. I buy to hang, looking at potential purchase from the point of view of will I want to see every day and how will it make me feel.

How much art makes it on your wall?, by Nick on Nov 4, 2014 13:33:49 GMT 1, I have everything framed or about to be framed, but my collection is quite modest at about 25pieces. The few things that have sat in my portfolio for a while and i kept bumping down the framing queue have been sold or are for sale. It's gotten to the stage were i am having to find spots to hang on staircases and in the spare room so no doubt soon enough i will have to start a rotation, won't be selling any for the reason of lack of wall space.

How much art makes it on your wall?, by Deleted on Nov 4, 2014 13:48:27 GMT 1, ^^ Same, I think Im at about 26 pieces, 11 are originals and 3 prints are still in the tubes they came in. I dont own a portfolio, and felt if I did, id be trying to fill it. We just did a purge and re-collect and sold works over 10 years old to grab some exciting up and comers. Yes it was for quite a profit, but thats the game. I'll definitely buy to re-sell later, but as the past has proven, it could be 10 years down the line.

How much art makes it on your wall?, by daveart on Nov 4, 2014 15:45:43 GMT 1, i bought a few boxes of supplies to mount most of the prints on conservation board. conservation board, corner holders, and plastic sleeves made for a nice project.. kind of like what you might see at an art fair where you can flip through prints mounted on board. Now i have 20 pieces of art - unframed - but ' 'mounted' - and i pick one or two to set in my office .. and then rotate them. not proper framing. but also not in storage where the art never gets seen.
Everyone has run into the problem of a $200 print costing $300 to frame properly. so this is maybe $10. per print totally safe and makes the usable until i want to actually frame them. and i can enjoy them in the meantime.

How much art makes it on your wall?, by Deleted on Nov 4, 2014 18:09:52 GMT 1, My goal is to have 100% on walls, with the exception of my Banksy poster collection. If I can sell/trade the last few prints I have in my portfolio (all up on my sales thread if you're looking for a good deal), my goal will be reached
minus a couple prints that I don't have the $$ to frame yet, but plan to ASAP

How much art makes it on your wall?, by jettad on Nov 4, 2014 18:13:58 GMT 1, I have too many in my portfolio (about 70%). All with the intention of framing, but sadly my self restraint failed me in my earlier collecting days so ended up with way too many. I have since taken lots of advice from the older/wiser members from the forum and am only buying prints or originals that will be framed and on the walls.

How much art makes it on your wall?, by sipps on Nov 4, 2014 21:27:59 GMT 1, the majority of the art that I purchase goes to the framer. most of the art in my portfolio is gig artwork, they will eventually make it to the framers but have just run out of walls to fill at the moment. my portfolio also has some extra space in it right now so I guess that makes me feel a little better haha

Could it be as much as 7.6 or maybe 7.7%? A lot of my art especially canvasses are leaning against walls under wall hung items. Gotta get myself a bigger place!

How much art makes it on your wall?, by Deleted on Nov 4, 2014 22:54:17 GMT 1, I'd say 80% on the walls the other 20% has been taken down due to changing tastes and are now looking to be sold. I tend now to avoid prints, not because I earn loads of money and can exclusively afford originals, but I really hate spending money on a print knowing full well to get it on the wall is going to cost maybe more than the print. Does mean miss out on quite a bit though!

How much art makes it on your wall?, by cashewman on Nov 5, 2014 4:39:00 GMT 1, Just did a quick count.
Been collecting for 4 years, and have purchased 37 pieces.
40% currently on the wall. 10% framed but not on the wall (currently rotated out) 50% not yet framed, lying flat.
If I'm honest with myself, 8 of those flat will never make it to the wall, and will be sold at some point. Why? Usually the difference between how something looked online, and in person, making it less attractive. (Occasionally the opposite is true, thankfully - recently with An El Mac, Askew, Liam Snootle)
The others currently flat will get up on the wall (that Mac, a Kai & Sunny, and a Fairey among them), but I'm pacing the framing.
And I suspect I'll sell a few framed pieces when it's time to move on.
I buy for love first and potential value second, and I'm not totally against making money. I just like to enjoy the work first, and give it a shot at the wall. And there's a large chunk of my collection that I doubt I'd ever sell.

How much art makes it on your wall?, by Deleted on Nov 17, 2014 18:46:00 GMT 1, I have most of my collection framed and on the walls, even my collection of almost 40 RCA secret postcards. I think there's nothing sadder than a piece tucked away, unseen.
I also don't have a problem with a self sustaining art collection, selling to buy. What I object to is someone buying a piece and immediately selling it purely for profit and not having enjoyed owning it.

How much art makes it on your wall?, by loother on Nov 17, 2014 19:40:53 GMT 1, I've recently acquired some new walls, which I'm just starting to fill. So at the moment 100% is on the walls or on its way, but I've got absolutely no doubt that people will keep producing stuff I really like after my walls are full, and that I'll keep buying some of it, at which point stuff will have to come down permanently or temporarily. If I can enjoy something for a few years and then sell it when I tire of it or find something I prefer, without losing much money in the process, then that'll be marvellous.
I'm also certain that there'll also be stuff that Mrs L doesn't like, but that I buy anyway because I like it a lot and am a bit stubborn and hope she'll change her mind when she actually sees it. I'll cross that bridge when I come to it, I suppose.

How much art makes it on your wall?, by Deleted on Nov 17, 2014 19:47:16 GMT 1, None at the moment, but thats due to having few walls, so they are all rotting in my mouldy dungeon.
Usually around 90 % usually up, final 10% are out of the frame and sitting in portfolio for a number of reasons
1. football smashed frame
2. piss head knocked frame off wall ( me)
3. nail came out of wall
4. frame just fell apart (kids answer when asked about it)
5. never framed, because i am too embarrassed for people to see it
