How much art makes it on your wall?, by stvro22 on Nov 4, 2014 3:22:15 GMT 1, Just wondering what percentage of art makes it on your walls as opposed to a portfolio or flat file? Also do you buy work knowing that you will never hang it?
Mine is 25% on wall 75% stored I do buy work that I never plan to frame

100% goes on walls. Always bought with intention to hang but just resold 1-2 which didn't catch my fancy upon receiving in person.

How much art makes it on your wall?, by loss1emouth on Nov 4, 2014 5:15:34 GMT 1, i don't have enough walls and so rotate as much as possible. i bought far too many bits and pieces back in 2006/7, and didn't appreciate how much framing would cost. wish i had more walls and a framing godmother...

How much art makes it on your wall?, by Schrรถdinger's Chat on Nov 4, 2014 7:26:51 GMT 1, 80% with the intention to hang the remainder in the future, when I fancy a change/get a bigger house (delete as required).
Used to have more sitting around in a portfolio but now sold most of it, so hopefully sitting on someone else's wall.

How much art makes it on your wall?, by Jeezuz Jones Snr on Nov 4, 2014 8:14:36 GMT 1, Currently all but one are framed.
We just bought a bigger place, before that we lived in a small apartment. I sold all my nick walkers, dolk and a few others as there was no room. Now with more wall space I wish I kept one or two..
But it's all good as my taste has changed and I can start fresh and look for a few new pieces as I have more space, problem is no $$

How much art makes it on your wall?, by jlf on Nov 4, 2014 8:24:11 GMT 1, Eventually I'd like all of it on the wall, just buying a bigger place so once I move in to that there will be a lot more room for it. Just need to get it all framed up.
At the moment it's 50/50, but thats cause I spent too much on art and not enough on framing rather than not wanting it on the wall

How much art makes it on your wall?, by b1470 on Nov 4, 2014 9:03:09 GMT 1, Regardless of the amount of art wall space I have, I frame everything and lean it against a wall in the house waiting to change it up sooner or later.

How much art makes it on your wall?, by alexdb on Nov 4, 2014 9:29:53 GMT 1, 50% on the walls and 50% in portfolio. Reason is that it simply just takes time for me to frame everything. I go to an expensive framer and do not want to spend too much every month on the framing part.
However, a original will always be hanged on the wall. The print edition may take some time. Portfolio is under my bed but it always gives me a smile when I open it and look at the unframed pieces. :-)

How much art makes it on your wall?, by johnnyh on Nov 4, 2014 9:35:49 GMT 1, must say I am in the more pieces than walls......ideally like a place big enough for it all but based on the premiss of fuk all chance of that. I store some and the others I rotate around. I have a little art room in our apartment what is supposed to be a study/office space that is great for keeping stuff. also has a load of shelves so can display a load of bits there.
try not to buy too much and be a bit selective but I am a bit of a magpie and like to keep rather than sell or trade regardless of their worth living abroad also makes the selling and trading a conceptual pain in the arse.
We have just bought a place in London so when we go in and out in the future may start reducing things down. Do like the concept and those that manage the if not on the walls move it on. Very good concept but know I will never do it.

How much art makes it on your wall?, by kfroms on Nov 4, 2014 11:02:50 GMT 1, 2/3 of my art is framed but I changed my approach on how to show it - I went from 'Petersburg Hanging' to only show two, max three pieces per wall and change those on a regular base.
the remaining 1/3 sits in a portfolio - some waiting to be framed and the remaining pieces which don't make the wall will be sold ( and boy learning to do that was tough )

How much art makes it on your wall?, by kfroms on Nov 4, 2014 11:15:12 GMT 1, Can only speak for me but i have a couple of pieces which I really liked at release but ,with a bit of distance , I am just not sure if they make the wall. Others are just victims of a changing taste.

Especially when you come on here and see something you passed on framed on someone else's wall. But I just keep telling myself there will be something I will like even more next week/month. And as a rule I don't impulse buy and think it over for a couple of days and I don't buy from members on here who don't put up prices and pics.
I do have more regrets than I have available wall space though.

How much art makes it on your wall?, by Someones Brain on Nov 4, 2014 11:56:52 GMT 1, You guys are so strong. I admire your will power. I myself am a weak victim of my art collector obsession and got much more art in the portfolios than on the walls. But one day (when I got more walls and more money) I will frame the collection, I swear ... (crosses fingers behind his back).

There is no difference. A large amount of the collectors that post on here are also flippers. They are in it as much for the potential money to be made as they are for the love of art.
It just better received if your selling a few months later with the added line of car broke down, house move, wife pregnant, and so on.

How much art makes it on your wall?, by iamzero on Nov 4, 2014 12:41:22 GMT 1, I've tried buying with the sole intention of making money to fund other art but I always end up liking the piece and keeping it... Sad collector in me.
Although I am tempted to sell my Eine 3 E's set or my West Country Kate to help fund a holiday I want to book?

How much art makes it on your wall?, by dazarino on Nov 4, 2014 13:13:03 GMT 1, When I first started collecting I purchased everything in sight but now alot more picky. I now rather save for originals pieces than prints but still buy if I like the piece. Like most collectors I enjoy trading when I'm a tad bored or trying to convince the other half a picture of a decomposing bunny rabbit looks good on the wall next to a framed picture of her family.
Don't think prints or paintings have to be on the wall to appreciate imo
Let's face it. We love the chase and feeling of a successful drop when a print grabs our fancy!!!! It's like a drug but costlier

Have never sold any of my art.... I am a poor capitalist.
