With all these prints out falling as the autumn leaves... , by Lroy on Nov 19, 2014 0:07:49 GMT 1, Yes that is true , it was not an attack against the artists or the prints, only the number of edition per month by now : it seems to have double even tripled and the prices increase too

As I see it they are at least 50% successful so far - great book made with a top shelf publisher, great book launch, cool show and 2 prints.
If they sell most of the art in the gallery a few straggling prints won't matter and their fall season will be the culmination of 12 months or more of planning.
And they will continue to be one of the entities referenced on this site as raising the bar and opening doors for others on this genre.

With all these prints out falling as the autumn leaves... , by oxomo on Nov 19, 2014 16:09:48 GMT 1, Personally, I have no issue with artists releasing lots of prints...means I get the chance to get their work on my wall. All the while they get paid, and can continue to create art that I love. I just can't see the downside...maybe I'm not thinking about the investment enough?

I also find it funny how some are quick to call a print release a "failure" if it doesn't sell out right away. Are print editions a primary concern for artists as successful as Faile? Or are they focusing more on selling original works in private galleries to elite collectors at much higher prices? Do they even care at this point if their far cheaper print editions sell out?
To be honest, I dislike the tone of this thread. A little too much schadenfreude for my taste.

With all these prints out falling as the autumn leaves... , by Deleted on Nov 19, 2014 16:19:42 GMT 1, Some collectors get bored with prints and move over to buying originals by lesser known artists.
For the price of a screen print or gigglee one can buy a decent original.

With all these prints out falling as the autumn leaves... , by twist65 on Nov 19, 2014 16:27:02 GMT 1, totally agree hairbland. Both Faile prints were sold out when I checked this morning, and considering they were part of the works on wood book and show it made total sense (to me anyway) for the associated editions to be large affordable runs. Very good price for a 26 colour screenprint regardless of edition size imo.. There are ogs available from the gallery for those with deeper wallets too. I am biased as I really like Faile and how they do things though..
In general I would say many artists now seem to price their work more in line with secondary market prices, or what they feel to be their 'worth' rather than the previous tactic of under-pricing to create release hype/bunfights/secondary market madness. Eine's recent releases for example. Faile seem to have always tried to do price fairly, with their studio prices rising over time in line with them developing as artists etc.
Think Aladdin Sane was a real return to form for Invader prints, I don't feel like he's released too much recently, just the previous few have been a bit lame. New Invasion Kit round the corner though, dread to think how much those will be this time (750 euros last time, I reckon 850+ this time...)
Think my days of making impulse purchases are gone, seems to me only really SOS still knocking out really good affordable editions.

With all these prints out falling as the autumn leaves... , by disdig1 on Nov 19, 2014 16:41:07 GMT 1, if pulling in $157k (on just one print) is failing then I would LOVE to be a failure!

With all these prints out falling as the autumn leaves... , by Deleted on Nov 19, 2014 16:48:50 GMT 1, Prints are fine if as much thought goes into a print as goes into an original.
Some artists like Dali would specifically create an image only to be made into a print which made that art unique as it's only in print form.
Other artists turn originals into prints too.
