Graffiti Prints Release this week, by Unica on Nov 28, 2014 18:19:46 GMT 1, My problem with that Kunstrasen canvas is that I find it a tiny bit racist. Does the cleaner have to be an afro-American lady from way back when black people were treated as slaves?
What an absurd comment to make, pitiful that people have to be throw out statements like this. Now the poor artist has to defend himself from being labelled racist. I think you should maybe hold back from implying an artists work is racist. A very unpleasant position to be put in.

Graffiti Prints Release this week, by duggyfresh on Nov 28, 2014 19:09:29 GMT 1, One zebra on ebay already, its in the states, what a surpise!!!!! Don't make fun of the States, we won the revolution so we can do what we want! And by the way, between the UK galleries, art boot fairs and the like I'd venture a guess that the ratio of items quickly on bay is percentage-wise higher from UK!
You're not going start chanting USA USA USA at me are you? Sorry couldn't resist that one!

Definitely not. America is one odd country (aren't they all?) and living in Brooklyn I'm in a bastion of liberalism and homemade pickles and the like, mostly made by hipsters with Amish beards who dress like Dexy's circa Come On Eileen.
But for what it's worth, since we are on the subject of countries, I visited Nicaragua with my gf this August and it caused me to pick up the book Open Veins of Latin America, an amazing book I strongly recommend.

Graffiti Prints Release this week, by Wearology on Nov 29, 2014 1:23:08 GMT 1, **** Assistant Moderator Alert **** Please take a moment and think what are the potential ramifications of the things you post. Some of the comments on this thread are completely irresponsible and baseless. If you are going to publicly call out a forum member and accuse them of being a racist than please do so by PM if you feel the need. I am completely dumbfounded by this thread as an active forum member and as a staff member. It's so bizarre that many people feel the need to attack a gallery for giving us a heads up on potential desirable releases and also attacking the artists that his gallery represents. Let's try and support each other instead of bringing down our community.

Graffiti Prints Release this week, by Deleted on Nov 29, 2014 1:51:47 GMT 1, Exactly, it's a take on a concept, and a good one in my humble opinion. Some will like it some won't, no big deal Guess that sums it up rather good. I just don't understand why an 'artist' would go near this concept, unless they've got an amazing new take on it?
and this certainly isn't a new take

Yeah true that! Me and the gf are planning a trip to the states and your city is first stop on the list.

Now there will be no civility here..
As to the moderator alert:
I think there should be enough liberalism on the forum to allow people to speak their mind about the works. He said he found the canvas's a bit racist. Shouldnt he be allowed to think so? I dont agree, but coming down on him for just saying it is a bit to much.

My apologies, bud.. These were all unfortunately spoken for the second they were purchased. Only grabbed 3 Zebras and 2 climber. .
If you guys need help in the future, feel free to ask. Just remember that I am a flipper so it has to be beneficial to both sides.

Graffiti Prints Release this week, by Hairbland on Nov 29, 2014 17:41:27 GMT 1, Guess that sums it up rather good. I just don't understand why an 'artist' would go near this concept, unless they've got an amazing new take on it?
and this certainly isn't a new take
Ok, good post - proof that eventually the monkeys on typewriters will bash out a book.
I can't understand why ANY artist would go after Hirst's dots at this point. Other than to move some units by smirky appropriation. And I'm assuming Banksy did it first - and obviously the best. This site's father takes down the emperor, pointing out the lack of clothing. Any further dot work is just trying for a sale by recognition. I can't think there is anything left to day regarding the dots...and as they are likely the most absurd of Hirst's concepts his other genres would be wasting time.
Why not go after Koons? Because nobody has yet...so no easy trail blazed? Much too much sharing of someone's ideas...Smurfs, cartoon characters with messed up faces - someone x'd out eyes...I'll make mine with no eyes. Drawing on money notes...why not? Nobody's doing that.
Artists need to find their own voices.

Why is Banksy obviously the best? In his time he has ripped of plenty of ideas/concepts and done good takes on these. Good on him I say. There ain't no rules. He wasn't being ironic with the 'bad artists imitate great artists steal' thing. Hirst doesn't paint his spot paintings, his studio staff do. That really is moving units by smirky appropriation.

I never planed to do an edition of it since I pretty much had the same thoughts about other ideas being way to close to this one, enough takes on Hirst's spot paintings anyhow and so on...
Did a 1/1 of the image though at some point since I thought it would be a nice gift for someone. Posted a pic of the canvas on Instagram, got so many messages regarding the image that I sprayed another one as a give away...which lead to just more messages. Did let myself convince to do it as an edition in the end.
Very happy I've done though by now even though I knew how parts of the forum would react. It's just a take on an existing concept...so what?

He wasn't being ironic with the 'bad artists imitate great artists steal' thing. Hirst doesn't paint his spot paintings, his studio staff do. That really is moving units by smirky appropriation. [br
Virtually everyone on this forum is aware of how the Hirst dot paintings are done. But they are his work. If Banksy's takedown was first, and best, then anything else after is going to have a big mountain to climb.
I see Banksy's take on the Hirst dots as likening them to wallpaper.
What's your take?
I also hear he's planning something in 2015 in UK similar to his October 2013 in NYC.
Aniy further dot work is just trying for a sale by recognition.
All good. I'm doing some political work now myself that I dig but yet when I show it to my friends they say hmmm...bit Warhol. Life goes on. I think your idea works , you just got beat to it.
