In it purely for the $$ , by Jeezuz Jones Snr on Jan 29, 2015 9:04:13 GMT 1, Okay we all now this forum is mainly about the profit.. So 'hypothetically speaking' if you were to receive 2 credit cards totalling $30kAUS (15k pounds) what artists (apart from Banksy) would you gamble and spend 15k pounds on in 2015 and sell all the art in 2016 and over he next 11 months pay off minimum monthly payments..
I was talking to my mate about it and reckon a few on here over the years must have done this?

I'm all for gearing up, but save it for property!

I would also seriously question that this forum is purely about the profit. There are lots of people on here who love art.

'Purely' means completely.. 'Mainly' means al lot of. But okay I could have worded it better.. Anyway forget I asked - seems like everyone is in it for love of the art then

In it purely for the $$ , by Coach on Jan 29, 2015 10:58:22 GMT 1, I like to think that there are still plenty of people on this forum that are not just here for profit, but for a passion for art. It's sad if you are right that most people are here for profit. I hope it's not true. But these days it's hard to wade through all the discussion of price and value to find discussion of art.

I don't think the majority are. I get excited opening art from newer artists, brilliant work but not costing thousands. Remember seeing that banksy post for unsigned work for ยฃ30 quid and signed ยฃ100 - at those prices it's about buying what you love, not an investment. Look at kobron, lee Ellis, Simon mathewson, cashman, etc.
Buy for the joy!

Look at kobron, lee Ellis, Simon mathewson, cashman, etc. Buy for the joy! I agree that you should buy art for the joy, but it is undeniable that art is an asset with resale value. I've personally never sold a piece of art, but as well as loving the piece I am buying, I want it to have investment value too.
If there ever comes a day that things are bad and I need money, it's good to know that I have a fairly liquid asset hanging on my wall that could help.
That doesn't mean I buy art for the purpose of investment, but having the best of both (value and joy) is a winner to me.

In it purely for the $$ , by M on Jan 29, 2015 11:39:33 GMT 1, It's really dangerous game buying art by credit card. It's because when interests are %20 for example and your investment would be a total failure. You are in debt. It's not an easy to sell art on the second market too but It's easy to buy and beware the Hype of course.

They would rather keep it to themselves so they have less people especially from a forum to compete with when buying!!
Next big thing - Adam Neate!!

Maybe if you had a decent interest free period on the CC you could do it profitably but your ROI is going to be really small if your paying 10% + in CC interest.

We buy what we like and sometimes they become worth more. My first phlegm piece cost me ยฃ15. I found out that my Kuntsrasen canvas i bought for ยฃ20 is going for ยฃ450 on the Bay. Its all relative. It isnt important unless you're selling up. The most I have paid for any print is ยฃ120. I don't expect to be able to retire out of all this nonsense, but my walls look pretty.
