Peter Lik Sell Prints Print Money, by lha on Feb 22, 2015 21:30:49 GMT 1, Lik has been peddling his stuff for s good few years. He's a salesman essentially along with a bit of conman.interesting though that he's managed to pull off masking a lot of money. Largely ignored by the art world - guess that can be seen as a good thing or bad thing. Considering how many people try to make it as photographers without success he certainly pulled the wool over a lot of people's eyes.

Peter Lik Sell Prints Print Money, by Jeezuz Jones Snr on Feb 22, 2015 22:02:05 GMT 1, Wow..$440m!! When I first moved to Australia in 2003 I would go into his gallery in cairns for half hour every day just to get in the aircon, it was soo hot!! His works were cheap then. I did't realise he raises the prices, I hate that and Harland miller(or his gallery) does it also. Greedy f*ckers!!

Peter Lik Sell Prints Print Money, by bejwee77 on Feb 23, 2015 5:19:25 GMT 1, I may be in the minority of those who can appreciate a rise like MBW or this guy for their accomplishments - say what you want, but they did it, and obviously they have an audience.
But it's much harder to abide the sense of self-importance. Shrugging off Ansel Adams (ala Jim James trashing Clapton, or Jack White acting like he's the first guy to piece together a few chords) is just nonsense.
These clowns buying into their own hype is what's sickening.

Peter Lik Sell Prints Print Money, by greenpoint on Feb 23, 2015 7:23:26 GMT 1, 3rd post here. Hello. Peter Lik reminds me of Thomas Kinkade in the US. I have a well respected photograpgher friend in the art world. I have been in his gallery in Soho recently. What a joke. I had fun talking to the sales rep. I was asking them about their pricing model and made reference to my friend and told her that's how he sells his prints but 10 prints max of a phot9. She then asked me who he is and I said his name. She said she didn't know who he is. I said ok. She then ask if she's seen a photo from him. I said probably. She said what photo. I replied a boxing photo of Warhol and Basquit. She replied she never seen it. I laughed and walk out of the gallery.

Peter Lik Sell Prints Print Money, by jettad on Feb 23, 2015 8:29:55 GMT 1, As a photographer myself I have to admire his business accomplishments, but I look at his images and just don't know why people are buying those mediocre, over saturated images, (in my opinion).

Peter Lik Sell Prints Print Money, by iamzero on Feb 23, 2015 10:49:18 GMT 1, I used to love seeing his galleries when travelling in Oz in 2002. Gotta admire the business plan although the same plan applied to stuff I buy from CCA can be a frustration.

Peter Lik Sell Prints Print Money, by pollz66 on Feb 23, 2015 11:25:27 GMT 1, Different art, different market, but a market all the same - and a very commercial one at that.
Lik simply knows how to exploit it and makes no bones about it.
I visited his gallery in Palm Springs last year. It wasn't my cup of tea but I doubt he gives a shit about what I think. With those price tags he doesn't really need the opinions of herberts like me.
There's plenty of photographers out there whose name is far heftier than the quality of their work (see: Rankin), and plenty bearing bullet-proof egos far bigger than Lik's (see: Bailey).
If you want "mediocre, over-saturated" images then look no further than this forum - it's full of them.
I've lost count the number of times I've had to stop myself posting a despairing comment about some of the half-baked, hackneyed "art" that gets posted on here. But that's democracy I suppose.
