The Rise of Sneaker Culture
PROSPECT HEIGHTS โ Some seriously nice kicks are coming to a museum near you.
One hundred and fifty pairs of sneakers are going on display at the Brooklyn Museum this summer as part of their exhibit, โThe Rise of Sneaker Culture,โ running from July 10 to October 4.
Original Air Force 1โs, the private collection of sneakerheads like Darryl "DMC" McDaniels and Bobbito Garcia and current designs by Kanye West and Christian Louboutin will be part of the exhibition, which aims to explore the cultural significance and social history of the shoes and their affect on sports, fashion and hip-hop, the museum said in a release.
From early 20th century track shoes to the invention of vulcanized rubber to Chuck Taylor to Adidas Superstars, the exhibition will be split into five parts spanning sneakers history from the late 1800s to the present.
