NEW SHOW : URBAN KINGS by GONNY (GLASS) VAN HULST , by 11 on May 18, 2015 0:24:55 GMT 1,
Went along to the opening of this show on Friday and had a great time. I am really enjoying broadening my exposure to the ever expanding world of Urban Art and as Gonny is a traditional Glassmaker was looking forward to an interesting show. Gonny's work didn't disappoint either and there was a really nice and varied body of work with wall hangings, sculpture, glass panels, handmade glass tiles as well as some other interesting marvels
I loved it, there were some really nice pieces.... the windows and glass tiles had some beautiful details in them while the two hanging steel framed glass panels were patterned and stained, looked awesome actually
As is customary these days, didn't leave until closing time and was far from sober.....actually missed my last train this time so don't intend making that mistake againย
ย Hospitality at the Ben Oakley Gallery was first-class too (kept the beers flowing all nightย )
If you get the chance get along and see the showย
Artist Bio: Born in the Netherlands, Gonny now lives and works in London. Trained in traditional glassmaking techniques, Gonny also has a fascination with street art culture and its context within the urban environment. Gonny strives to bridge the gap between contemporary glass and street art. โMy inspiration comes from city life and urban decay and I seek to bring beauty to things that we might find flawed or broken to create work that is thought-provoking, dynamic and at times with a sense of humourโ.
